Job Summary

The Macon Area Career and Technical Education Center (MACTEC) is now accepting applications for a Building Trades Instructor for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year and upcoming 2026-2027 school year.

Minimum Qualifications:

Eligibility for Missouri CTE Certification may be met through one of the following pathways:

  • No degree and six thousand (6000) hours of Department-approved closely related occupational experience obtained within the past ten (10) years; or
  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university and five thousand (5000) hours of Department-approved closely related occupational experience within the past ten (10) years; or
  • Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university and four thousand (4000) hours of Department-approved closely related occupational experience obtained within the past ten (10) years.

Job Goal:

The Skilled Technical Sciences (STS) Instructor provides students with rigorous industry-aligned instruction in their specialized technical field preparing them for entry-level employment apprenticeships advanced training and industry-recognized certifications. This position supports high-quality hands-on learning technical skill development safety practices and professional expectations that reflect current industry standards. The instructor will collaborate with MACTEC staff community partners and industry advisory committees to support student success and ensure program relevance and compliance.

Working Conditions:

This position requires work in classroom laboratory shop and field environments. Collaboration with students families faculty employers and community partners is expected. Programs may require occasional evenings or weekends for industry events student competitions program advisory meetings or professional responsibilities. The role also requires operation of tools machinery equipment and technology pertinent to the specialty area.

Essential Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Provide high-quality instruction aligned with current industry standards safety guidelines and DESE requirements.
  • Prepare students for industry-recognized credentials certifications or technical skill assessments relevant to the specialty area.
  • Maintain accurate instructional records equipment inventories and program documentation.
  • Develop and update curriculum lesson plans assessments and instructional materials to reflect modern industry practices and technologies.
  • Create opportunities for hands-on skill development real-world application simulation and project-based learning.
  • Establish and maintain a classroom and lab environment that is safe organized and conducive to learning.

Safety & Laboratory/Shop Oversight

  • Ensure consistent implementation of all safety procedures and maintain safe operation of tools equipment machinery and materials.
  • Conduct regular inspections of lab or shop spaces and coordinate maintenance or repair needs.
  • Teach and model safe workplace behaviors and enforce safety expectations at all times.

Student Support & Professional Skills

  • Reinforce employability expectations professional behavior and workplace ethics.
  • Provide guidance on career pathways apprenticeships postsecondary options and workforce readiness.
  • Monitor and support student progress communicating concerns or needs to the Career Center Director and Student Services Coordinator/Career Resource Educator as appropriate.

Industry & Community Partnerships

  • Maintain an active Program Advisory Committee to ensure the curriculum remains aligned with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with local employers to support work-based learning job shadowing internships and real-world experiences.
  • Promote Skilled Technical Sciences pathways through recruitment activities outreach to sending schools and community engagement.
  • Represent the program and MACTEC positively during industry events competitions and public relations activities.

Program Coordination & Partnerships

  • Maintain required program records certifications equipment inventories and state or federal compliance documentation.
  • Participate in professional development aligned with program needs district initiatives and industry expectations.
  • Work collaboratively with MACTEC staff to support student success and continuous program improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Career Center Director.
