JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Electronics & Instrumentation Technologist.

Reporting to the Plant System Support Manager the Electronics & Instrumentation Technologist provides technical expertise in the areas of electronics instrumentation and radiofrequency broadcast maintenance issues as they relate to OPG facilities including workplace hazards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Electronics & Instrumentation Technologist is responsible to design construct develop test modify evaluate repair and calibrate radiation protection conventional safety protective clothing and equipment analytical instrumentation control and electrical equipment as assigned by supervisor. Contribute to the solution of problems associated with new or modified equipment and aid in the introduction of new equipment.

  • Perform a troubleshooting and repair service in an instrumentation laboratory setting or at various locations involving radiation protection conventional safety analytical instrumentation and control equipment through the application of tests as required such as electrical electronic pneumatic or hydraulic to ensure that the repaired equipment meets its performance specifications.
  • Prepare appropriate reports outlining equipment faults and test procedures used and forward to Section Manager for review and approval.
  • Perform preventive maintenance of our facilities including air/ refrigeration systems instrumentation and control systems complex electrical/electronic metering devices and equipment such as programmable controllers and other software-control equipment at various locations as assigned.
  • Make routine visual instrumental mechanical electrical and electronic checks on metering equipment to ensure it meets the standard requirements. Clean calibrate lubricate and adjust equipment as required to achieve specified efficiency and accuracy. Perform other routine maintenance tasks as identified for specific pieces of equipment at various field locations.
  • Inspect install calibrate modify evaluate and test unusual and/or complicated new or existing radiation protection conventional safety and analytical instrumentation control and electrical metering equipment as directed by Section Manager.
  • Review pertinent drawings inspect equipment test calibration and perform tests required to evaluate equipment performance. Discuss with Section Manager the theory of operation methodology test requirements and the like. Prepare reports specifications and work procedures and submit them to Section Manager for review and approval.
  • Conduct tests in hazardous laboratory settings involving high voltage equipment toxic gases chemicals and radioactive gases and materials. Prepare reports specifications and safe test and work procedures and submit them to Section Manager for review and approval.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 2-years of demonstrated hands-on experience as an Electronics & Instrumentation Technologist or similar role.
  • Prior experience an industrial / nuclear environment an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills required to work with both internal and external stakeholders and Government agencies.
  • Well versed in MS Office applications and advanced functionality including Excel Word PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Must hold a valid drivers license in good standing.
