Middle School History Teacher

Reports to: Middle School Division Director (Grades 5-8)

Role Duration: Full Time 10 months begins August 2026

Position and Qualifications Summary

Ashley Hall seeks a full-time History teacher for grades 5-8 to begin August 2026. The candidate will teach Ancient Civilizations and World Geography in 7th grade and American History in 8th grade.

Excellent knowledge and understanding of the subject are essential. The ideal candidate must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference in the lives of our students and embrace the schools mission and commitment to the pursuit of an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme curriculum framework.

Major Responsibilities

The most competitive candidates will offer the following qualifications and qualities:

• Teaching history with a modular inquiry-based and project-based approach through the lens of art history geography politics and economics.

• Prioritizing the student voice and class discussion.

• Ensuring creativity and high quality-teaching and learning.

• Developing engaging lesson plans designed to foster global perspectives.

• Fostering a caring atmosphere and showing commitment to the well-being and social and academic progress of each student.

• Sharing responsibilities for curriculum development and other departmental and divisional priorities including trips (national and international).

• Collaborating on a curricular transition to meet the requirements of the IB MYP curriculum framework.

• Acting as a Middle School Advisor.

Key Requirements

• Masters degree with a major or concentration in Humanities History or Geography preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of and experience in teaching in the IB MYP curriculum framework preferred.

• Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience working with middle grades students; specifically those in grades 5-8.

• Commitment to ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.

• Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team.

• Curriculum development knowledge.

• Flexibility and willingness to teach across time periods.

• Inter-cultural awareness with well-developed interpersonal skills.

• Ancillary duties and responsibilities as assigned..

Since its founding in 1909 Ashley Hall has empowered young women to think critically act ethically and embrace their world with confidence. The School serves girls kindergarten through grade 12 (and is co-ed in its Early School ages 2 to 5 years). Ashley Hall provides a dynamic education grounded in a Reggio approach in its early School and an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in its Lower School. It is currently in the strategic phase of a Middle Years Programme candidacy with the intention of pursuing Diploma Programme candidacy thereafter.
