Reporting to the Vice President HSE the role of the Building Services HSE Director is to enhance develop and implement the health and safety management system into Modern Niagara Building Services (MNBS). The Building Services HSE Director provides leadership and guidance to Building Services Operations in the execution of the health and safety program in the field. Leads collaborates and coordinates with field HSE Specialists as required to support Building Services operational safety needs across the business.
OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead with Building Services Operations Management to ensure initiatives are properly aligned and executed throughout MNBS.
- First point of contact for our customers on all health and safety issues arising out of field operations.
- Ensure the customer requirements on contracts and projects are being met and eliminate gaps as required.
- Conduct frequent reviews of established health and safety procedures to ensure ongoing effectiveness and compliance on site
- Oversee the auditing of Service sites for compliance with Health & Safety programs and process
- Review the analysis of injury data identifying the needs for new or modified safety programs. Implement leading indicators to predict and prevent injuries.
- Continuously engage the Services workforce to ensure needs and compliance are met; promote safe behaviors and a positive safety culture
- Provide continuous support and guidance with Services Operations to maintain a safe work environment that is consistent with the companys policies and provincial regulations.
- Oversee the completion of special information requests from regulatory agencies and representing the corporation in meetings with regulatory agencies.
- Evaluate employee safety behavior and performance to ensure training programs are effective.
- Provide guidance on matters related to compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Participate in safety reviews/audits of projects new facilities equipment or processes in conjunction with Services personnel.
- Conduct frequent walk through of sites observing conditions and work practices; make recommendations champion change and recognize positive achievements and behaviors.
- Where required assist with root cause analysis for incidents and near miss events; assist in development and implementation of corrective actions.
- Ensure effective and relevant HSE communication to internal stakeholders.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of the Services training program.
- Influence commitment from field leaders to comply with all HSE requirements.
- Partnering with operations on HSE messaging and communications to the field.
- Supporting the completion of all HSE documents and providing constructive feedback to encourage continuous improvement.
- Attending all HSE and Services Operational meetings.
- Supporting the VP and Director of HSE with any additional tasks as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Post-secondary education in Health and Safety or a related field.
- 10 years of experience within a similar position. Previous experience within the construction services industry would be a strong asset.
- Credentials to support skillset (CRSP CHSC NCSO etc.).
- Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Office including Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint.
- Effective communicator with the ability to develop and sustain productive working relationships with employees subcontractors and other stakeholders at all levels.
- Well-organized individual with the ability to effectively set and manage competing priorities.
- Sense of prioritization and drive to succeed.
- Comfortable working within a deadline-driven fast-paced environment.
- Resourceful energetic and able to operate independently with confidence.
- Clean drivers license and the ability to travel to job sites if required.
- Strong interest in growing a career within the construction services industry.
- Ability to travel nationally as needed.
