Summary
This role is pivotal in promoting professional standards within the service by delivering outcome-focused assessments and contributing to the success of the Council and the Local Area for Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The position offers flexibility with the option for remote work or office presence. The primary aim is to ensure that children and young people with SEND receive timely and effective support aligning with statutory requirements and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Deliver outcome-focused assessments and contribute to the services success.
- Ensure timely Education Health and Care assessments or annual reviews for children and young people with SEND.
- Support compliance with the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
- Serve as a key contact for children families and service users coordinating services and providing guidance.
- Collaborate with practitioners to identify when specialist involvement is needed and ensure effective liaison.
- Promote early identification of SEND in children and young people through multi-professional collaboration.
- Complete and review EHCPs within statutory timeframes and to a high standard.
- Attend various planning and review meetings on behalf of the Local Authority.
- Maintain accurate case records using the Councils pupil database.
- Manage personal caseload and communicate potential issues to managers.
- Provide and promote up-to-date information on the Local Offer.
- Support formal disagreement resolutions and assist with Tribunal preparations.
- Understand and contribute to key performance indicators within the service area.
- Stay informed about relevant legislation in SEND and social care.
- Address safeguarding concerns by referring them to senior staff.
- Coordinate Education Health & Care needs assessments in compliance with statutory guidelines.
- Develop clear outcome-focused plans that reflect the needs of children or young people.
- Build and maintain trusting relationships with stakeholders while managing expectations.
- Assist the Senior Assessment and Review Officer & SEND Operational Manager as needed.
Requirements
- Knowledge: Promote professional standards by delivering outcome-focused assessments.
- Experience:
- Multi-disciplinary working and risk management for vulnerable children.
- Teamwork and independent task prioritisation.
- Leading multi-agency meetings and writing person-centered plans.
- Working with IT client databases and within safeguarding policies.
- Qualifications: Relevant professional qualifications (e.g. teaching social work management).
- Skills:
- Effective time management organization and delegation.
- Ability to build honest and trusting relationships with children families and professionals.
- Fluent English proficiency as per the Immigration Act (2016).
