Job Summary

Within the People & Culture division sits our Employee Relations (ER) team who provide specialist advice and support to employees and leaders across our organisation.

The ER team is responsible for:

  • Providing expert advice and support to our people leaders and employees to effectively manage and resolve often complex people related matters including disciplinary procedures consequence management complaints interpersonal conflict and performance counselling.
  • Conducting investigations including in relation to Workplace Bullying Sexual Harassment Discrimination and Harassment Conflicts of Interest misuse of Bank systems data loss breaches of lending policy etc
  • Managing our industrial arrangements to ensure they are commercial compliant and relevant.
  • Creating and maintaining contemporary policies and frameworks to ensure conduct behaviours and conditions of employment are managed consistently supporting our Group strategy culture and values.

We currently have a fantastic full-time opportunity to join the ER team as an Employee Relations Consultant (permanent role). Reporting to the Senior Manager Employee Relations you will provide high quality accurate and timely advice to help support and educate our people leaders and employees across a broad range of people related matters including Bank policies Code of Conduct and Values Consequence management framework disciplinary procedure employee complaints procedure and Enterprise Agreement. This role will give you the opportunity to partner with stakeholders as a trusted advisor and to meaningfully contribute to the Banks success.

To succeed in this role you will be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in ER and be passionate about developing yourself in this specialist area. The ER team have a wealth of experience to share and are excited to add a new member to their team who will contribute strongly whilst being supported in their learning and development. No two days are the same in ER and you will manage a diverse range of people related matters continuously learning and developing your career.

This role will preferably be based in Melbourne or Bendigo in a hybrid approach working in the office and from home to support the achievement of team and individual goals learning and development and work/life balance. We offer flexible work options that put our people first and a hybrid model with a minimum requirement of 60% of your time per week in the office.

As an Employee Relations Consultant youll:

  • Advise and support people leaders and employees to effectively address misconduct complaints and interpersonal conflict consistent with the Banks Disciplinary procedure Complaints Procedure for Employees and Consequence Management framework.
  • Effectively manage investigations regarding employee misconduct which includes producing all relevant artefacts such as notification warning and dismissal letters. Additionally support and partner with Senior Consultants and Senior Managers to conduct complex workplace investigations including in relation to Workplace Bullying and Sexual harassment.
  • Provide accurate and practical advice regarding the application of Bank policies Code of Conduct and Values Enterprise Agreement and other employment related matters.
  • Provide advice and support to people leaders and employees consistent with the Banks Performance Counselling procedure.
  • Regularly review understand and practically apply amendments to industrial instruments and Bank policies procedures and systems.
  • Respond in a timely and accurate manner to various internal queries received regarding Bank policies and procedures. Additionally responding to matters received from external parties including the Fair Work Commission and Finance Sector Union in addition to requests regarding the Australian Banking Association Conduct Background Check Protocol and ASIC Protocol.

  • Demonstrated resilience and ability to work in a fast-paced and often complex environment
  • Genuine passion and interest in developing your HR career in the ER space
  • Whilst desirable but not mandatory a qualification in Human Resources or a related discipline or be working towards a relevant qualification
  • Whilst desirable but not mandatory experience in advising people leaders and/or employees about Bank policies procedures processes and/or systems
  • Whilst desirable but not mandatory an understanding of employment legislation awards and enterprise agreements
