The Richard A. Miner School of Computer & Information Sciences (CIS) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor faculty position to start in the Fall Semester of Professors teach three courses per semester and provide substantial service contributions to the Miner School and University. Specifically we are looking for faculty to teach courses in our new Applied AI and Data Science program as well as courses in our undergraduate curriculum for all Computer Science students.

The Miner School of Computer & Information Sciences:

The Miner School of Computer & Information Sciences (CIS) was launched in Summer 2022 and named in honor of our alumnus Rich Miner co-founder of Android.

The School currently has 23 tenured and tenure-track faculty members 7 full-time teaching faculty members 2 visiting lecturer and adjunct instructors serving over 1000 Computer Science (CS) BS students 200 MS students and 70 PhD options include bioinformatics robotics data science cybersecurity and a PhD in computational mathematics. We also offer a BS an MS and an AS (Associate of Science) in Information Technology (IT) online with 512 118 and 36 students the last two years the CIS faculty has received approximately $20M in external research funding from NSF DARPA DOD DHE NIH NIST and industry. Research expenditures have more than doubled over the last five years. The School currently has 7 NSF CAREER Award recipients.   • An earned doctorate in Computer Science or a closely related field as well as 2 or more years teaching experience in Computer Science at the college or university level.

OR

  • A Masters degree in Computer Science or a closely related field as well as 4 or more years experience in the software industry and 2 or more years of teaching experience in Computer Science at the college or university level.
  • Applicants must demonstrate their potential to establish and deliver excellent teaching and service records
  • Applicants must show prior success in teaching undergraduate courses preferably at both introductory and advanced levels.
  • Applicants must have teaching experience that is relevant to one or more of following courses or have relevant experience that will allow them to develop curricula and teach them: Data Structures I and II using Python Applied AI Studio Machine Learning Studio Machine Learning Linear Algebra with Computers Data Visualization Data Management.
  • Applicants should also be able to teach one or more of the following courses of our Computer Science curriculum: Assembly Language Computer Architecture Operating Systems Organization of Programming Languages and Foundations of Computer Science.
  • Applicants should have a demonstrated capability for academic management and leadership

This is a full-time benefited Massachusetts Society of Professors/MTA/NEA union position. Anticipated salary range of $75000 - $106000 based on Asst. Teaching Professor rank and qualifications.
