Job Summary

Are you familiar with electromagnetism electrical engineering and vacuum equipment and ready for a next-level challenge Could contributing to the worlds largest machine ignite your passion If so its time to step into the cutting-edge world of pulsed magnets at CERN! In the Systems Department (SY) the Accelerator Beam Transfer Group (ABT) is in charge of the design development construction and exploitation of beam transfer related equipment.

Your responsibilities

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on the development installation and commissioning of fast-pulsed systems.
  • Contribute to ongoing R&D efforts including optical fiber sensors coating technologies and related innovations.
  • Conduct numerical simulations (e.g PSpice electromagnetic and thermal analyses).
  • Prepare test setups and perform electrical and RF measurements.
  • Participate in partial discharge testing.
  • Develop maintain scripts for post-processing analysis and work with the team to identify opportunities for automation.
  • Document simulation and experimental results and contribute to the publication of scientific findings.

Your profile

  • Background in electrical engineering or similar.
  • Experience with electromagnetic simulation tools and analogue circuit simulations (e.g. Comsol CST Spice).
  • Experience with electrical measurement equipment (e.g. oscilloscope LCR meter VNA).

Skills:

  • Skilled in using programming and software tools to process analyse and visualise complex datasets.
  • Ability to document simulation and test results accurately.
  • Motivation to work in a multidisciplinary and international environment.
  • Spoken and written English with a commitment to learn French.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Masters degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Additional Information :

Job closing date: 12.01.2026 at 23:59 CET.

Contract duration: 24 months with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week

Job flexibility: Fully Onsite

Target start date: 01-March-2026

This position involves:

  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
  • A valid driving licence.
