Summary
We are seeking a Senior IT / Communications Controls Engineer with strong experience designing programming and supporting industrial control systems. This role focuses on PLC programming HMI design SCADA integration communications protocols and substation automation.
The position supports systems used in substations railroad operations automation and industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and support automated control systems substations and communications infrastructure
Program upload edit and troubleshoot PLC HMI & SCADA applications
Develop engineering hardware designs and system architecture
Support system commissioning FAT/SAT and field inspections
Configure industrial communication devices networking equipment protocol converters switches and firewalls
Create engineering documentation including design specs wiring diagrams bill of materials RTU programming and communication block diagrams
Support project planning scope definition and procurement activities
Conduct system cybersecurity configurations based on NERC CIP standards
Provide field support for controls and communications equipment
Required Experience
5 years in controls engineering automation or communications systems
PLC programming ladder logic scripting
HMI development
SCADA system design & implementation
Industrial communication protocols including:
Modbus (TCP/RTU)
DNP 3.0
Ethernet/IP
RS-232/RS-485
Ability to interpret P&IDs sequence of operations engineering specs etc.
Experience setting up historian databases
Technical Knowledge
Control systems and automation platforms
Industrial networking & TCP/IP
SCADA platforms
Communications infrastructure
Electrical and controls engineering standards
