Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
The position requires extensive knowledge of wildland fire management principles and practices; program management and administration; program and project planning; equipment and techniques used in wildland fire control; fire incident command system; interagency fire suppression strategy and tactics; fire finance and State procurement policies and procedures; wildland fire prevention and home prevention principles; forest management programs and activities; a variety of computer software applications including word processing spreadsheets and databases; knowledge of training methods techniques and practices associated with fire management. The position also requires knowledge of supervisory principles and practices DNRC and State Personnel policies procedures and precedents organizational structures employment law and program requirements.
The position requires skill in the use and operation of tools avionics equipment radios and vehicles used in wildland fire control forest management activities and field office be able to perform long flights (up to 5 hours) and fly in adverse conditions throughout mountainous terrain across the state and beyond.
The position requires the skill and ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; skill and ability in public speaking and delivering presentations to groups and individuals; the ability to coordinate and direct multiple human and physical resources to complete work objectives work on multiple projects simultaneously; work well with others and maintain a positive working environment. Also required is the ability to provide leadership and direction to others; the ability to synthesize multiple rapid and critical information quickly and implement appropriate actions; the ability to direct and coordinate multi-agency mobilizations; There are no physical fitness requirements for ATGS however qualifications which keep currency including DIVS ICT3 and ICT4 require successful Arduous Work Capacity Test completion.
Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):
The incumbent must possess and maintain interagency qualifications as an Air Tactical Group Supervisor (ATGS) to serve in this capacity on incident and to train others. Prior experience and training in wildland firefighting and the use of aircraft in fire suppression is required to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position.
The required skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelors degree in fire management or related resource mamangement field and 5 years of progressively responsible job - related experience in the fire and forest management. High School diploma and 6 years applicable experience my substitute.
SPECIAL INFORMATION:
Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. A valid drivers license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.

Job Overview:
The Air Tactical Group Supervisor (ATGS) works for the Aviation Program Manager and is located within the Forestry Division Fire Protection Bureau. This position manages and administers ATGS program functions from the Interagency Aerial Supervision Guide (IASG) for the State of Montana. This position performs aerial supervision as a fully qualified NWCG ATGS providing aerial supervision as well as coordinating ATGS training and program functions within the state. The incumbent solicits feedback from agency and interagency managers supervisors project leaders and their staff to ensure aerial supervision and subsequent training is performed to program standards. They serve both as an internal resource to DNRC personnel and to key partners in local state tribal and federal government. The ATGS primary function manages incident airspace and controls incident air traffic. The ATGS is an airborne firefighter who coordinates assigns and evaluates the use of aerial resources in support of incident objectives. The ATGS is the link between ground personnel and incident aircraft ensuring safe effective wildfire operations. The ATGS must collaborate with ground personnel to develop and implement tactical and logistical missions on an incident. The ATGS must also work with dispatch staff to coordinate the ordering assignment and release of incident aircraft in accordance with the needs of fire management and incident command personnel.

As an Aviation Program Specialist perform and oversee programmatic functions to include administrative technical and logistical duties within the DNRC Aviation Program and serves in support of ongoing Department Division and Bureau objectives.

As an Aviation Program Specialist perform and oversee ATGS functions to include administrative technical operational and logistical duties within the DNRC Aviation Program and serves in support of ongoing Department Division and Bureau objectives.
Aerial Supervision Training and Safety:
Develop training plans courses course aids and coordinate a training and currency program for qualified ATGS and trainees on an interagency basis at the geographic area level.
