Job Summary:
Oversee the maintenance and repair of the musical instrument collection within the School of Music Theatre and Dance including all woodwind brass string and percussion instruments (approximately 2000 instruments). Manage the collection to determine appropriate instruments for secondary instruction in music education and specialty instruments for ensembles. Teach course(s) in instrument repair. Manage the instrumental repair shop including student workers lockers and keys check-out system for all instruments and parts inventory.

Essential Duties:
and repair all woodwind brass string and percussion instruments; perform routine maintenance; keep records and prepare reports each academic block.
inventory of instruments storage cabinets and related equipment.
parts and supplies; order as needed; recommend purchases; prepare annual operating and capital budget requests.
with Associate Dean on major repairs and shop needs.
day-to-day operations of the Instrumental Repair Shop including instrument checkout and student workers.
cooperative relationships with faculty students and vendors.
train and supervise student assistants; ensure health and safety compliance.
security of instruments and equipment.
and update online repair services list.
summer educational programs.
professional memberships and participate in related activities.
and teach course(s) in instrument repair techniques as needed.
other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Associates degree in instrument repair; extensive knowledge of woodwind brass string and percussion instruments (especially woodwinds); experience maintaining a large collection of instruments; attention to detail excellent organizational skills knowledge of basic computer programs (for tracking and communication); strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to effectively work and interact respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment; ability to carry instruments and equipment up to 30 lbs are required. Candidates with 3 years of full-time experience in instrument repair or the equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in an academic setting and overseeing student workers; knowledge of or experience with computer and/or electronic instruments are preferred.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in a dedicated instrument repair shop equipped with: Hand tools and power tools for disassembly adjustment and repair of woodwind brass and string instruments; soldering stations for metalwork and joint repairs; and cleaning equipment including ultrasonic cleaners and polishing systems for instrument maintenance. The technician also uses computer systems for inventory tracking and communication.
This position is 37.5 hours per week 52 weeks per year.

Hiring Range:
$23.76 to $25.70 per hour commensurate with qualifications and experience.
