Why Your Role Matters:

As the Data Quality Specialist you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy consistency and integrity of the organisations data. By analysing data designing and maintaining dashboards investigating anomalies and identifying trends and inconsistencies you will play a critical role in detecting data issues and implementing corrective measures to strengthen data quality.

You will also coordinate and support Data Quality initiatives and projects helping to drive and embed sustainable improvements to data quality across People & Culture and the wider organisation. You will work with data stewards across P&C HR Solutions UPP and other stakeholders to promote best practices and maintain high data quality that supports informed decision-making.

Reporting to the Head of People Data and Insights this role has no direct reports but holds significant influence in strengthening data governance and quality across UNSW.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop monitor and refine regular and ad-hoc data quality reports and dashboards.
  • Identify anomalies and inconsistencies and investigate missing duplicate or erroneous data.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and recommend effective solutions.
  • Work with data stewards process owners and technical teams to resolve data issues.
  • Document and maintain data correction workflows and quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation data governance policies and privacy regulations.
  • Improve data management processes and promote best practices across the organisation.
  • Provide guidance to stakeholders and present data quality findings to key teams.
  • Monitor data quality metrics and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Deliver training to raise awareness of data quality expectations and processes.

About You:

You are detail-focused analytical and committed to improving data quality. You bring:

  • A relevant degree in Data Science IT Business Analytics or a related field.
  • Experience in data quality data analysis or similar roles.
  • Skills in SQL Excel Python and visualisation tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Understanding of data governance data management practices and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with data quality tools (e.g. Informatica Talend) is desirable.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills with the ability to explain complex issues clearly.
