EXAMINATION PROCESS: The examination process for this posting may include an evaluation of training and experience a written examination a computerized exam an oral board interview examination a performance examination or any combination of the above in order to qualify applicants for placement on the eligible list. The appropriate number of names on the eligible list as prescribed by Merit System Section 26.03.505 will be certified to the hiring department for consideration to fill the vacant position(s).

JOB DESCRIPTION
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs beginning level professional engineering work; does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: An employee in this class learns to work on a variety of engineering projects and environmental compliance tasksunder very close supervision of an engineer. Work includes design planning construction and maintenance of sanitary sewer systems and drainage protective work or improvements and environmental testing and coordination of environmental programs. Assignments are very specific and closely monitored. As experience is gained more opportunity is given for some independent planning and execution of work. This is a training classification for professional civil engineering tasks. This position may supervise subordinate employees.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (only)
- Checks inspects and recommends approvals or disapprovals of lines and grades on sewer and drainage construction projects;
- Gives information and advice to drafting technicians on construction projects;
- Coordinates the collection and performs analysis of wastewater samples and
- meter data for billing and permit compliance;
- Investigates and responds to environmental issues;
- Executes analytical work and administrative functions for the environmental laboratory ensuring quality assurance and maintaining certifications.
- Makes preliminary feasibility studies plans and specifications for review by an engineer;
- Assists engineers in checking inspecting and recommending approvals or disapprovals of lines and grades in sewer and drainage construction;
- Assists with the inspections administration and monitoring related to the Countys Industrial Pretreatment Program.
- Assists in the preparation of civil structural electrical and mechanical design;
- Makes periodic reports and special reports when required;
- Attends engineering courses and training sessions to upgrade professional competence;
- Reviews sediment erosion control plans;
- Promotes an ongoing attitude of dedication to excellent public service and ensures that external and internal customers are provided with the highest quality of service;
- Operates a data processing terminal personal computer and other related equipment in the course of work.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Some knowledge of modern principles and procedures of civil mechanical or electrical engineering as applied to the construction and design of civil mechanical or electrical projects; good knowledge of wastewater chemistry sampling procedures and equipment;ability to learn difficult engineering tasks; ability to learn to perform engineering and environmentaltasks on an independent basis; ability to communicate courteously and effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to pass a Class III County physical examination.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Possession of an associates degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering environmental science chemistry or related fieldor any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
