Job Summary
Red Ember Recruitment is seeking a Mechanical CAD Draughtsman (Electro-Optics) on behalf of our client in the defence and electro-optical research and development sector based in Pretoria.
The successful candidate will provide mechanical draughting and modelling support for the development of advanced EO assemblies including detailed CAD designs opto-mechanical integration data-pack management and configuration control.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & Draughting
- Interpret system and product requirements for mechanical design
- Produce mechanical assembly and sub-assembly drawings
- Perform detailed modelling using PTC CREO or similar tools
- Apply ISO SABS ACME or British drawing standards
- Support opto-mechanical design activities
Integration Testing & Documentation
- Participate in systems integration with optical electronic software and mechanical teams
- Conduct lab testing and evaluation of produced designs
- Maintain full data-pack and configuration management (Windchill)
- Prepare data-packs for serial production
Engineering Support
- Collaborate with mechanical and optics production facilities
- Assist in procurement of materials components and manufactured items
- Provide engineering design support as required
- Perform any reasonable tasks assigned
Travel
- Occasional international travel to clients or parent company
Requirements
- Matric
- Minimum 5 years mechanical CAD draughting in an engineering environment
- Experience in product development
Required:
- Mechanical CAD (PTC CREO or similar)
- ISO SABS ACME or British drawing standards
- Microsoft Office
Preferred:
- Opto-mechanical draughting
- Strong systems understanding and ability to work across technical disciplines
Required Skills:
degree (electronic or computer). Software design and implementation experience. Experience in product development. Software system engineering experience. Specialist knowledge (required / preferred): Object orientated programming experience (C) (required). Embedded systems software development (required). Experience in image processing (preferred). Machine learning algorithms development (preferred).
