Job Summary

SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS (ASD SUB SEPARATE SPECIALIZED INSTRUCTION)REPORTS TO: Works under the supervision of the School Principal and Special Education Director as : Special Education Teachers will support the needs of special education students. They will assist studentsrequiring specialized instruction reinforcement and regulation. They will also support parent ASSOCIATED WITH THIS POSITION INCLUDE:Lawrence Public Schools is looking for exceptional and dedicated Special Education Teachers foranticipated vacancies throughout the the classroom to establish and maintain an effective learning environment for students withcomplex language learning and cognitive disabilities per student IEPsParticipate in the Team meeting processDevelop implement and monitor progress of IEP goals and objectives to ensure complianceDevelop appropriate instructional materials activities & lesson plans taking into consideration cognitivelevels and age- appropriateness of studentsEstablish clear learning targets for all lessons units and projects and communicate those learningtargets to studentsPromote a supportive learning and teaching environment that supports the social/emotional well-beingof studentsPlan and coordinate with specialists related service providers and other staff members to delivercomprehensive programming for studentsCommunicate regularly with parentsMaintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws district policies and administrativeregulationsAssist in collection of data for providing appropriate interventions and recommendationsMaintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities curriculumdevelopment meetings and other professional opportunitiesPerform related duties as required by the building Principal and the Special Education Zone DirectorMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSLicensed as a Moderate or Severe Special Needs Teacher through the Department of Elementary and SecondaryEducationMasters degree from an accredited institution preferredStrong knowledge of the IDEA and MA working with a diverse population of students and families within a multi-cultural communityStrong ability to multi-task and work within a fast paced environment focused on student learning data collectionand measurable outcomesStrong understanding of LRE and FAPEExperience working with students within the inclusion small group and individual settingsExperience working with students with all types of disabilities as outlined in the MA Disability Categories237 Essex Street Lawrence MA 01840 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSAbility to move in and out of office classrooms buildings and up and down possess mobility to work in a classroom setting and to use standard equipment including a computerStrength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 poundsVision to read printed materials and a computer screenHearing and speech to communicate in person and over the to lift and/or carry materials/items/persons weighing up to 75 pounds with assistance as the students mayneed alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate QUALIFICATIONS:Current authorization to work in the United all mandated health screening requirementsA record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school to the Code of Professional Conduct for School EmployeesComplies with drug-free workplace rules board policies and administrative guidelines/ to establish working relationships with co-workers and function as part of a cohesive to keep current with skills essential to the objectives of the YEAR: Full-time 183 Days/AnnuallySALARY: In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Lawrence Teachers Union Local 1019American Federation of Teachers and the Lawrence Public : Benefits in accordance with the School District guidelinesEQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYERLawrence Public Schools is committed to maintaining a work and learning environment free fromdiscrimination on the basis of race color religion national origin pregnancy gender identity sexualorientation marital/civil union status ancestry place of birth age citizenship status veteran status politicalaffiliation genetic information or disability as defined and required by state and federal laws.
