In accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Manager or designate the Health Services for Community Living (HSCL) Nurse participates in developing implementing monitoring and evaluating Health Services for Community Living for adult clients/patients with developmental disabilities in a variety of settings in accordance with the Vision and Mission statements of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA). Utilizing knowledge and clinical expertise functions as a clinical resource providing consultation and in-service to nurses physicians other program teams service providers and other caregivers regarding the care and treatment of clients/patients. Formally advises caregivers and delegates nursing tasks as required. Responsible for client/patient assessment and the teaching in group and individual settings of service providers caregivers and staff with a variety of health education needs. Provides direct client/patient care teaching and problem solving.

Travel is a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Vancouver Island Health Authority in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Training And Experience

Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant or a practicing RPN registrant. Graduation from a recognized nursing program or evidence of an equivalent combination of education training and experience. Three (3) years recent related experience including two (2) years relevant community experience with adults with developmental disabilities. Knowledge of current theories technologies and practices in the caring for the developmentally disabled; of applicable legislation; and of child/adult education principles.

  • Ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts
  • Ability to foster and promote good public relations
  • Ability to operate related equipment including a computer
