CBCs Scripted Content division is home to high impact award-winning Canadian

dramas comedies and feature films. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate

about Canadian storytelling to join the Scripted team. Under the direction of CBCs Director(s) of Development and the Senior Advisor Production and Business planning you will play a pivotal role in the managing of the ongoing evaluation and tracking of pitches scripts and related business materials for drama comedy or feature films.


A 9 month full-time development opportunity for an individual with a connection to and deep understanding of Indigenous communities in Canada including experience producing/creating Indigenous content. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are highly organized have a strong interest in both the creative financial and production aspects of TV/film and are eager to learn the detailed creative development and business operations of scripted content.


Responsibilities include:

  • Provide creative feedback and script coverage as needed.

  • Evaluate pitch materials in terms of their creative strengths relevance and provide feedback during internal meetings.

  • Research review and evaluate Intellectual Property (literary visual audio) as neededSupport the Development Manager in the evaluation of short films and administration of Canadian Reflections - CBCs long-running short film showcase.

  • Coordinate sensitive and confidential information across various departments. Including assisting with maintaining and updating confidential departmental records and databases.

  • Manage the intake and organization of production documentation including preliminary budgets financial cashflows and cost reports and detailed script breakdowns.

  • Review project related cost reports and production/post schedules identifying any discrepancies and/or concerns that deviate from the agreement.

  • Research and organize documentation related to Canadian funding agencies tax credit guidelines and International Treaty Co-production requirements for upcoming projects.

  • Knowledge of performer and other talent/labour collective agreements (i.e. ACTRA WGC DGC IATSE NABET and AF of M).

  • Drafts and distributes the Daily FYI newsletter to the Scripted team

  • Research and organize resources on up-to-date television production/post production processes and business practices.

  • Organize coordinate and attend meetings briefing sessions and other appointments and ensure preparation and distribution of related agendas documentation minutes and follow up material.


Qualifications:

  • A University degree or equivalent 5 years relevant experience (including internships job shadowing and learning spaces - e.g. BIPOC workshops).

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of Indigenous diversity

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Strong coordination and management experience as well as the ability to function collaboratively in a highly competitive environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication. Must be able to communicate effectively and diplomatically with a very wide range of individuals such as producers writers directors bearing in mind the sensitivity of creative issues especially in the rushed and often stressful environment of television production.

  • Demonstrated strong and accurate analytical skills problem solving abilities attention to detail and ability to multi-task.

  • Must be able to exercise good judgment and show initiative.

  • Proficient with Excel Word and Google related software.


Additional knowledge and skills required:

  • A passion for and knowledge about scripted programming in Canada and around the world

  • A strong story sensibility

  • The ability to read and absorb high volumes of material on an ongoing basis.

  • High level of discretion in handling confidential information

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and conduct in-depth analysis.

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of and/or connection to underrepresented communities across Canada.
