Job Summary:

We are actively seeking outstanding professionals who are passionate about the Agency and serving the Mission. The Mail and Property Officer (Correctional Officer II) is responsible for the secure and efficient handling of inmate mail and personal property before the distribution to the prison complexes. This position ensures compliance with policies and security protocols by inspecting processing and documenting all incoming and outgoing correspondence and property. The officer plays a key role in preventing the introduction of contraband maintaining accurate records and safeguarding inmate belongings. The role requires strong attention to detail adherence to confidentiality standards and coordination with correctional staff to support complex operations and safety.

Employees must currently be a Correctional Officer II with the Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation and Reentry with a minimum of 6 months of experience working in mail and property at their current institution and have completed original probation.

Job Duties:

The ideal candidate will have an attention to detail should be focused independent patient and willing to complete tasks timely and efficiently. Candidates should also have a working knowledge of technology.

Primary Responsibilities include:

- An extensive knowledge of policy DO914

- Sorting and distribution

- Separate legal mail from general correspondence

- Open and inspect non-legal mail for prohibited items (e.g. drugs weapons coded messages)

- Reject mail that violates facility rules (e.g. explicit content unauthorized items)

- Scanning mail

- Uploading documents

- Record keeping

- Mailroom maintenance: keeping the mailroom clean and organized

- Customer service

- Other duties as assigned

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of: Department Order 914: Inmate Mail collection sorting preparation and delivery of mail to inmates

Skill in: operating scanners; monitoring basic office recordkeeping; participating in and overseeing the handling of medium-weight objects without injury or incident.

Ability to: prioritize workload of the inmate mail; give written and verbal instructions to co-workers; monitor basic office recordkeeping.

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation.

If this position requires driving or using a vehicle as an essential function of the job then

the following requirements apply; Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State

business must possess and retain a current valid class-appropriate drivers license

complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary drivers license

record checks. The license must be current unexpired and neither revoked or

suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license

record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete all

required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state

business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona

Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R.11).
