We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in composite materials and advanced this role you will lead the design and development of high-performance composite components and structures ensuring innovative lightweight and robust solutions across our product portfolio.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end mechanical design of composite components from concept to production release.
- Develop detailed 3D CAD models assemblies and engineering drawings to industry standards.
- Select appropriate composite materials lay-up strategies and manufacturing processes (e.g. prepreg RTM filament winding and vacuum infusion).
- Perform structural analysis and optimization of composite designs using FEA tools.
- Collaborate with manufacturing quality and materials engineering teams to ensure design feasibility and production efficiency.
- Support prototype builds testing campaigns and performance validation activities.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Junior Engineers.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives design best practices and material innovation.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering Materials Engineering Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in mechanical design within the composites industry (aerospace automotive marine sporting goods industrial etc.).
- Strong proficiency in CAD software (e.g. CATIA Siemens NX SolidWorks and Creo).
- Solid understanding of composite material behaviour laminate theory and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS Abaqus HyperWorks or similar) for composite structures.
- Excellent knowledge of GD&T tolerance analysis and industry standards.
- Strong project leadership skills and the ability to manage complex design tasks.
- Excellent communication and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.
