Transport Manager plans coordinates and oversees all company transportation ensuring efficient safe and cost-effective movement of goods/people by managing routes vehicles drivers budgets and compliance with all legal regulations (safety HGV etc.) involving daily dispatching maintenance team leadership and strategic planning to optimize logistics and meet business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Planning: Develop and implement efficient routes schedules and logistics for shipments.
Fleet Management: Oversee daily vehicle maintenance repairs inspections and ensure roadworthiness.
Team Leadership: Recruit train schedule and manage drivers and transport staff; monitor performance.
Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to national/international transport laws safety standards and company policies (e.g. dangerous goods driver hours).
Cost & Budget Control: Monitor transportation costs negotiate with carriers and manage budgets.
Coordination: Liaise with warehouse production and other departments; manage third-party carriers.
Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records prepare reports and handle shipping documentation.
Problem Solving: Investigate issues like lost packages delays and customer complaints.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Strong leadership communication and analytical skills.
Expertise in transport software (TMS fleet management).
Deep knowledge of transport regulations (e.g. CPC HGV).
