Position Title: Police Officer
Department: La Vega ISD Police Department
Reports To: Chief of PoliceWork Schedule: Full-time 12 months
Location: La Vega ISD Campuses and District Property
Position Summary: The La Vega Independent School District is seeking qualified highly motivated applicants for the position of Police Officer. The officer will be responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for students staff and visitors across all district facilities and events. The position requires a proactive community-based policing approach within an educational setting.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must hold a current Texas Peace Officer License issued by TCOLE
Must be eligible to work in the State of Texas
Must meet all requirements of Texas Education Code 37.081 and 37.0814
High school diploma or GED required (college coursework preferred)
Valid Texas Drivers License
Ability to pass a criminal background check psychological evaluation physical agility test and drug screening
Must live within McLennan County or be willing to relocate within the county
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in school-based law enforcement or patrol experience
Training in crisis intervention de-escalation or school safety
Familiarity with multi-hazard emergency operations plans
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain a visible law enforcement presence on assigned campuses
Protect the safety and welfare of students staff and visitors
Respond to emergencies criminal activity and disciplinary incidents
Enforce federal state and local laws as well as district policies
Assist in emergency drills and campus safety planning
Collaborate with administrators counselors and teachers to support a safe learning environment
Participate in threat assessment team and safety committee efforts
Provide mentoring and educational support to students when appropriate
Prepare reports and maintain accurate documentation
Assist with traffic control and security during arrival dismissal and events
