| Job Description: | The Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Florida is seeking applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) 12-month non-tenure track Lecturer/Instructional Assistant Professor faculty position. This is a 100% teaching (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences) appointment within the Department of Animal Sciences Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences at the University of Florida. A successful candidate with a Ph.D. degree would be eligible to use the Instructional Assistant Professor working title. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit. The primary responsibilities of this position would be to teach undergraduate courses and laboratories that make up the required core of the equine science degree option and to advise undergraduate students. Specific courses may include but are not limited to Introduction to Equine Science Equine Nutrition and Feeding Management Relationship of Form to Function in Horses Horse Enterprise Management and Introduction to Animal Sciences. Faculty are encouraged to support and participate in the CALS Honors Program distance education and international education. Because of the IFAS land-grant mission all faculty are expected to be supportive of and engaged in all three mission areasResearch Teaching and Extensionregardless of the assignment split specified in the position description. Background Information: Florida boasts large and vibrant beef dairy and horse industries that have strong ties to research teaching and extension programs within IFAS. The Department of Animal Sciences has an emphasis on the forage consuming species particularly cattle and horses and their products useful to humankind. Recently significant investment in the animal sciences by the State of Florida has resulted in substantial growth in the Department of Animal Sciences. There are significant strengths in the Department in the areas of physiology nutrition and genetics that will serve as fertile collaborative potential for the incumbent to this position. The Department also has substantial farm facilities for housing beef and dairy cattle horses and sheep for use by faculty in research teaching and extension efforts. The University of Florida is a Land-Grant Sea-Grant and Space-Grant institution encompassing virtually all academic and professional disciplines with an enrollment of more than 56000 students. UF is a member of The Association of American Universities. The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences includes the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station the Florida Cooperative Extension Service the College of Veterinary Medicine the Florida Sea Grant program and encompasses 16 on-campus academic departments and schools 12 Research and Educational Centers (REC) located throughout the state 6 Research sites/demonstration units administered by RECs or academic departments and Florida Cooperative Extension Service offices in all 67 counties (counties operate and maintain). The School of Natural Resources and Environment is an interdisciplinary unit housed in IFAS and managed by several colleges on campus. UF/IFAS employs nearly 4500 people which includes approximately 990 salaried faculty and 1400 permanent support personnel located in Gainesville and throughout the state. IFAS one of the nations largest agricultural and natural resources research and education organizations is administered by a Vice President and four deans: the Dean of the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences the Dean for Extension and Director of the Florida Cooperative Extension Service the Dean for Research and Director of the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station and the Dean for the College of Veterinary Medicine. UF/IFAS also engages in cooperative work with Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. |

| Required Qualifications: | A Masters degree (foreign equivalent acceptable) in animal science or other related discipline is required. Demonstrated experience in one or more areas of equine science are required. Candidates will also have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication and interpersonal relationships. Candidates must be supportive of the tripartite teaching research and extension mission of the Land-Grant system and have a commitment to UF core values . |
| Preferred: | Ph.D. degree is desirable but not required (only required for use of the Instructional Assistant Professor working title). Teaching experience (both online and in-person)evidenceof professional development and scholarship of teaching and learning is in academic advising and administration. |
