Serving as a Lower School Long-Term Substitute Teacher is a wonderful opportunity to experience Hammonds professional culture firsthand and explore all that our school offers to those considering or aspiring to work in an educational setting.
Join our Hammond 4th-grade team as a Long-Term Substitute Teacher. This is a full-time exempt homeroom teacher position beginning in February 2026 and continuing through to the end of the semester May 22 2026. This position entails having a homeroom and teaching English Language Arts for two homerooms in a team-teaching approach alongside another 4th grade teacher.
Long-Term Substitute Teacher responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Adhering to the curriculum plans provided by the regular teacher.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Following established school and classroom procedures and achieving lesson goals.
- Complying with the duty schedule of the teacher being covered including recess supervision hallway transitions lunch duty and carpool procedures.
- Complying with all school employee regulations and policies at all times.
- Taking attendance.
- Ensuring the classroom and workstations are kept clean and orderly.
- Overseeing normal classroom rhythms and activities including student engagement behavior support and positive classroom management.
- Communicating effectively with colleagues parents and administration.
- Following school safety plans and procedures.
Lower School Long-Term Substitute Teacher Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree
- Experience teaching and/or supervising children
- Professional reference able to verify experience supervising children
Reporting: Lower School Teachers report to the Head of Lower School.
