Student Worker - 2026 Summer Bridge Mentor
Number of Openings: 12
Purpose/Objective of the Role:
Mentors for the OMSA Bridge Program serve as important ambassadors and role-models to incoming first-year participants. Mentors will help participants develop lasting relationships; learn how to navigate Ohio Wesleyan; and empower participants with important tools for their personal success.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
Bridge Peer Mentor works with the Bridge Program under the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) to provide thoughtful mentoring for assigned participants. Successful mentors are flexible and wear many hats. Bridge Peer Mentors help participants by:
- Assisting in the development of successful time management skills
- Attending workshops geared to their academic success and personal development
- Examples:
- Including self-awareness
- Time-management
- Communication
- Research methods
- Social justice
- Healthy relationships
- Connecting them to the Delaware and Columbus OH areas
- Connecting them with other participants faculty and staff
- Develop life-long friendships
- Helping them become familiar with campus resources and services
- Helping them celebrate the Small Wins throughout their first-year experience
- Leading small groups (5-7 participants) sessions centered on learning to navigate university life (examples: making friends laundry joining clubs/organizations balancing life etc.)
Qualifications:
- 1 academic Year of Service
- 1 year as a student at OWU
- Ability to communicate and work well with others
- Attend all Mandatory Dates:
- July 12 2026
- August 11 2026
- Commitment to transformation equity diversity and inclusion
- Have a sincere concern for the well-being of first year participants.
- Have at least a 2.0 GPA
- Have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a culturally-diverse environment
- Have participated in at least one student organization club or group (desirable)
- Knowledge of OWU campus and local community
