COMPENSATION INFORMATION
The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time. While we strive to provide competitive and transparent compensation there may be circumstances where an offer is above or outside of the listed range. We are open to discussing salary expectations with qualified candidates considering factors such as the candidates qualifications skills competencies experience and geographic location will all be considered during the hiring process.

  • Engineer I Pay Range: $80000 - $87000
  • Engineer II Pay Range: $90000 - $99000

Join our team as an Engineer in Transmission Services!

Southwest Power Pool Inc. (SPP) is seeking an experienced and motivated Engineer Transmission Services to lead the modeling and analysis of the SPP electrical transmission system. This role involves performing engineering analyses coordinating special studies and supporting the Transmission Services department in collaboration with SPP staff members and customers. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of transmission system planning and the ability to apply engineering theory to real-world situations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the modeling analysis and planning of the SPP electrical transmission system
  • Develop maintain and improve engineering processes procedures and planning techniques
  • Collaborate with internal departments vendors consultants SPP members and customers to achieve Transmission Services objectives
  • Apply advanced engineering analysis and develop improved engineering methods
  • Mentor and train staff including onboarding and professional development of less experienced team members
  • Lead and participate in working groups study efforts and stakeholder meetings
  • Oversee technical aspects of planning processes and ensure compliance with governing documents and regulatory requirements
  • Provide technical support to customers facilitating feedback discussions to achieve consensus and satisfaction
  • Manage multiple technical projects independently while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Represent Transmission Services internally and externally as a subject matter expert in powerflow and transmission concepts
  • Develop reports procedures and presentations while ensuring technical accuracy and adherence to SPP standards
  • Promote SPP culture mission and core values in all interactions and work responsibilities

To be successful in the role were looking for:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering this degree should:
  • Be from a university that meets the requirements to sit for the Professional Engineering exam (in Arkansas that is most typically a degree from an ABET accredited university or a graduate degree from a college that has an ABET accreditation)
  • Be in a calculus-based engineering field and preferred degree programs are Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering Industrial Engineering Mechanical Engineering or Systems Engineering
  • Engineer I - no experience required
  • Engineer II - Two (2) years of relevant Engineering experience
  • Competency with the administrative and communication tools for word processing spreadsheet development and time keeping at a minimum
  • Strong knowledge of several power systems analysis tools applicable to power system steady state dynamic short circuit or database management systems
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills along with good written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent working skills with communication and data handling software such as Microsoft Office Word Excel Access Understanding and complying with compliance with SPP Policies and Procedures

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer license
  • Advanced degree in related field of study Electric utility industry experience
  • Proficient with most SPP power systems analysis tools with a solid command of several SPP tools and processes Sound understanding of the SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff NAESB FERC & NERC governing documents SPP By-Laws SPP Criteria and the SPP Committee structure

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones photocopiers filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of workweek are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 extended hours may be required.

Travel Requirement:

This position requires moderate travel (approximately 0-10%).
