Job Description

The University of Nevada Reno is recruiting for roles that will fill the Board of Directors of the Residential Housing Association (RHA). Under the supervision of the Coordinator for Student Engagement the RHA Board of Directors consists of 5 roles that work alongside the RHA Executive Board to promote engagement through intentional programming provide resources advocacy and operational support to residents within all communities of Residential Life Housing and Food Services at the University of Nevada.

This job posting will serve as means to recruit all 5 of those aforementioned roles. Throughout the term of employment all 5 directors are expected to work to support RHA overall but there may be specific timely project- based requests that each board member may be assigned or otherwise asked to work on by the Executive Board or Coordinator of Student Engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Opportunities to chair or assist with department wide committees.

  • Collaborate with RHA Executive team to plan and organize events and programs.

  • Maintain RHA Resource center scheduling of office hours and monitor the check in/out process of office resources.

  • Acting as RHA liaison to community Leadership Councils.

  • Creating and gathering information related to marketing and promotion of activities throughout our department.

  • Maintain organization social media accounts

  • General duties of each member sitting on the RHA Board of Directors include:

    • Attending regular one-on-one meetings with RHA advisor(s)

    • Performing administrative duties as assigned by the RHA Executive Board and/ or advisors as they relate to areas of Administration Programming Advocacy and Marketing

  • Members of the RHA Board of Directors shall also be willing and able to fill in for a missing executive board position should such a vacancy occur.

  • Attendance at all Fall and Spring trainings are required in person. Successful candidates shall be sure that they have adequate living arrangements in place prior to the first day of student staff training in August 2025 as emergent housing will not be available from the University.

  • This position requires the successful candidate to be knowledgeable In and to follow RHA RLHFS and University guidelines regarding finances.

  • Other duties include:

    • Completing weekly RHA reports

    • Assisting with the development of agendas for board meeting

    • Completing assigned office hours in the RHA Resource Center

Required Qualifications

  • Candidate must be enrolled as a full-time student at the University of Nevada Reno

  • Candidate must successfully complete a minimum of 15 credits per semester of employment.

    • Credit-load is limited to 17 credits per semester.

    • Those who wish to request enrollment in less than 15 credits or 18 credits may do so by gaining approval.

  • Candidate must maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average (both semester and cumulative) while holding the Board of Director position. Failure to meet this expectation at any point while in this position may result in probation or termination at the sole discretion of UNR.

  • While holding this position the Directors must get approval for any secondary employment.

  • During the length of employment students must not hold a position elsewhere on campus that would regularly conflict with duties as assigned in this role. This includes roles that would conflict with mandatory training dates & times.

Successful candidates will also exhibit the following:

  • Residential life operations and procedures

  • Conflict resolution

  • General higher educational procedures as defined by Nevada System of Higher Education; solving for students issues and concerns

  • Program development and administration

  • Finances related to RHA RLHFS and University guidelines; Open Meeting Law; Rules of Order;

    • Personnel supervision/management

    • Interpersonal Communications

    • Dispute and conflict resolution

    • Public relations and customer service

    • Excellent written and verbal communication

    • Decision making and creative problem solving

    • Proficiency in use of a personal computer and current software applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word Access Excel PowerPoint and email)

    Ability to:

    • Work and interact with diverse populations of students parents faculty and staff in a positive and productive manner

    • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

    • Plan and implement programs that support departmental goals

    • Manage staff and work as a team leader

    • Exercise sound judgment to make objective fair and consistent decisions

    • Support the University Student Services and department mission and goals

    • Work evenings and weekends and travel as needed

    Schedule

    Expected hours to work per week: 10 - 15

    Directors serve a minimum of 10 and maximum of 15 hours per week and compensated at a rate of $12 per hour. These hours will include all duties as assigned as well as scheduled office hours within the RHA Resource Center additional meetings and /or events required by said position. Attendance at all RHA sponsored events will be considered mandatory unless preapproved absences by the Coordinator for Student Engagement are made in advance.
