Physician Assistant Surgical Assist (Hand Foot & Ankle)
We are seeking a dedicated full-time Physician Assistant (PA) to join our growing team at OrthoLoneStar. This is a rewarding opportunity to work alongside skilled hand foot and ankle surgeons in a dynamic fast-paced environment. The role will be predominantly focused on surgical assistance providing critical intraoperative support and perioperative care for patients undergoing orthopedic procedures.
The Physician Assistant delivers advanced comprehensive healthcare to a defined patient population in collaboration with the medical team. This role adheres to established medical standards protocols and best practices while also providing specific care directives to nursing and support staff. The patient population ranges from adolescents to geriatrics.
Key Responsibilities
- Primary surgical assist for hand foot and ankle procedures including intraoperative support closures and application of surgical appliances.
- Conduct hospital rounds write orders take call manage inpatient care and document histories H&Ps and discharge summaries.
- Perform patient evaluations including medical exams histories diagnostic interpretation and establishing working diagnoses.
- Develop and document treatment plans tailored to surgical and non-surgical orthopedic care.
- Order and interpret diagnostics including EMG ECG x-rays CT MRI bone scans and tissue specimens.
- Perform therapeutic procedures such as joint aspirations fracture/dislocation reductions joint and tendon injections and application of braces casts and splints.
- Prescribe medications and devices educate patients collaborate with the care team and coordinate referrals within state guidelines.
- Ensure accurate documentation protect confidentiality and support quality and collaborative initiatives.
Qualifications
Required Skills & Competencies
- Expertise in surgical and orthopedic care especially for hand foot and ankle conditions.
- Clinical reasoning and problem-solving abilities in high-acuity settings.
- Strong communication skills for effective patient and team interactions.
- Organizational skills for accurate documentation and time management.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and lifelong learning.
- Compliance with safety training and immunization protocols.
- Education: Masters Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from a program approved by the Texas State Board of Licensing.
- Experience: One to two years of related experience and/or training preferred; surgical experience highly valued.
- Licensure: Current State of Texas licensure as a Physician Assistant required.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Delegates appropriately and supervises Medical Assistants.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
- Noise Level: Moderate.
- Physical Requirements: Frequent standing walking bending lifting (up to 70 lbs) and use of hands; ability to assist in surgical settings.
