Position Summary:
Prepares detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for the manufacture of tooling dies and forging tools usings CAD software.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Transfers customer data sets and generate drawings for estimates using CAD tools and other available software.
- Creates 2D forging drawings and 3D models from customer drawings and models using CAD tools.
- Creates 2D drawings and 3D models necessary for the manufacture of the dies and forging tools using the CAD tools and instructions from the supervising engineer.
- Interact and engage with personnel cross functionally to ensure drawings are compatible with machinery material specs tolerances and customer specifications
- Collaborate with engineers and toolmakers on manufacturability material selection equipment needs and press/die performance
- May support die setups adjust tooling parameters to ensure quality and efficiency
- Supports with bill of materials (BOMs) cost estimates and material take-offs for quotes and production planning
- Maintain CAD libraries standards SOPs PDM/PLM databases including vendor blocks and templates
- Provide QA/QC on drawings checking compliance with specifications codes tolerances and best practices
- Any other duties assigned.
Required Skills:
- Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures blueprints and specifications. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of supervisors and managers and shop personnel.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.
- A wide range of engineering knowledge with an emphasis on mechanics materials machining methods mathematics and physics
Experience & Education:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in Computer Aided Design; CATIA (preferred)
- GD&T
- Two years or more of Forge Manufacturing preferred
Language Ability:
Ability to read analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
