As a Sr. Applied Scientist youll drive the development of novel algorithms and modeling techniques to advance the state of the art with LLMs and real-time Agentic AI solutions that power our next-generation communication features. Youll work closely with cross-functional teams including product management engineering design and data to design and deliver innovative solutions that leverage these AI technologies to enable seamless intelligent communication experiences. Youll also lead the integration of these advanced AI systems into Alexas core capabilities ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience.
Key job responsibilities
- Develop new inference and training techniques to improve the performance of Large Language Models for Smart Home control and Automation
- Develop robust techniques for synthetic data generation for training large models and maintaining model generalization
- Research experiment and build Proof Of Concepts advancing the state of the art in AI & ML for GenAI.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to architect and execute technically rigorous AI projects.
- Thrive in dynamic environment adapting quickly to evolving technical requirements and deadlines.
- Engage in effective technical communication (written & spoken) with coordination across teams.
- Conduct thorough documentation of algorithms methodologies and findings for transparency and reproducibility.
- Publish research papers in internal and external venues of repute
- Support on-call activities for critical issues
- Mentoring junior scientists to improve their skills knowledge and their ability to get things done

- 3 years of building machine learning models for business application experience
- PhD or Masters degree and 6 years of applied research experience
- Experience programming in Java C Python or related language
- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
- Experience with modeling tools such as R scikit-learn Spark MLLib MxNet Tensorflow numpy scipy etc.
- Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop Spark etc.

The base salary for this position ranges from $195900/year up to $327200/year. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
