Position Details
There is a temporary thirty-seven and one half (37 ½) hour per week position available with duties effective immediately ending at a date to be determined. Hours will be variable and will include evenings and may involve some weekends.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Manager Human Rights and Equity the Temporary Human Rights and Equity Officer will
contribute to the implementation of the identified priorities of the Office of Human Rights and Equity. The priorities
include but are not limited to system wide capacity building on issues of equity and inclusion facilitate the implementation of the Boards anti-Back Racism Strategic Action Plan and support schools in creating inclusive and welcoming learning environments.

Qualifications / Experience

Post-secondary diploma/degree with a focus on Human Rights and Equity mediation or other alternative dispute
resolution restorative practices.

Minimum of two (2) years of related experience in assessing human rights complaints early resolution mediation
training conflict resolution equity diversity/workplace equity or anti-racism.

Knowledge of workplace equity anti-oppression/anti-racism frameworks and human rights legislation.

Proven ability to work under pressure in order to meet frequent deadlines.

Excellent communication skills verbal and written problem solving and data analytical skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills with an inclusive approach.

Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and/or work environment.

Advanced level of computer skills including Microsoft Office Package and SharePoint.

Comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code Anti-Racism Act Occupational Health and
Safety Act Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act Education Act and other legislation to support
Inclusive and welcoming learning and working environments for all members of Halton Catholic District
School Board.

Experience providing education and information on rights and responsibilities under the Ontario Human
Rights Code.

Experience assessing human rights issues or complaints based on all Human Rights Code grounds and
using strong analytical and problem-solving skills to determine appropriate courses of action.

Experience successfully resolving issues and complaints including thorough restorative practices mediation
and other forms of informal and formal alternative dispute resolution and conflict resolution practices.

Responsibilities

Support the Human Rights and Equity team with facilitation of training and education on human rights issues across
the school board including human rights compliance training to senior school board staff

Create in-house resources and sample training toolkit for student families and staff

Support the board wide roll out and implementation of the procedure to respond to hate based incidents.

Develop tools and resources to support the implementation of human rights complaints resolution procedures
and practices

Establish an accessible web presence and work with staff to ensure the complaints procedure is widely communicated
and accessible to all students families staff and communities.

Support students and families in addressing human rights issues through information early resolution and alternate
dispute resolution.

Experience addressing human rights and equity issues through restorative practices

Support tracking of human rights issues elevated by students/families

Work with the Senior Manager to prepare presentations on research findings and recommendations.

Support students and families with informal resolution and handling of incident follow- up and mediation

Outreach to students and families to foster a climate of human rights and equity

Provide school presentations for students

Support the implementation of the recommendations of the Equity Audit

Support research and data collection for projects supported or lead by the Human Rights and Equity Team.

Keep informed of current research and trends related to human rights equity and support the team on various
activities.
