Job Summary
We are currently seeking a proactive organised and highly skilled Facilities Manager to oversee the site buildings and grounds of a thriving secondary school in Portsmouth. This full-time permanent role begins January 2026 (or earlier) and is ideal for someone with strong leadership ability excellent practical skills and a thorough understanding of health & safety compliance.
The successful candidate will take a strategic lead on maintaining a safe efficient and welcoming learning environment for staff students and visitors.

Responsibilities
Leading the day-to-day running of the school site
Managing caretakers cleaning teams and external contractors
Overseeing building maintenance repairs and improvement projects
Ensuring full compliance with health & safety including statutory checks
Managing security systems alarms access controls and site safety procedures
Monitoring heating lighting ventilation and energy systems
Conducting risk assessments and maintaining accurate H&S records
Supporting school events lettings and termly operational planning
Experience & Qualifications
Previous experience in facilities estates or site management (school experience desirable)
Strong understanding of health & safety safeguarding and compliance
Ability to lead a team and manage contractors effectively
Practical maintenance skills across multiple trades
Excellent communication organisation and problem-solving abilities
