    QUALIFICATIONS
    1. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures and operation of common office equipment including computer and word processing equipment
    2. Proficiency as typist; ability to make accurate arithmetical computations; ability to develop statistical data and reports
    3. Training and/or experience in maintenance of computerized files including data input retrieval and preparation of reports
    4. Experience in organization and management of an office
    5. Ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to use independent judgment and supervise workof others
    6. Ability to work effectively with staff students and public
    7. Ability to learn and interpret rules regulations laws and processes related to specific areaassigned
    8. Ability to plan and conduct complex clerical operations requiring effective accountability andcontrols
    9. Bilingual ability may be required depending on assignment
    10. Must pass required tests

    JOB GOAL: To provide services which contribute to effectiveness of department by performing variety of clerical typing and recordkeeping duties

    DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This class is distinguished as the highly skilled technical orspecialist level of the clerical series with duties of acomplexand diverse nature involving technical functions within aspecific subject area. Employees in this class musthavesufficientsubject matter knowledge to serve as a primaryreference source for staffand/or public and may supervisework of other clerical staff

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Conducts transactions with staff and/or public requiring detailed knowledge of policies proceduresand terminology of specific area to which assigned
    2. Answers inquiries and provides information of specialized or confidential nature requiring use ofdiscretion and independent judgment in interpreting and explaining regulations and procedures
    3. Checks prepares assembles and tabulates materials and information from various sources forrecords and reports
    4. Develops systems to ensure accountability and controls; develops and maintains system of filesand records
    5. Maintains computerized files including input output and preparation of reports
    6. Types letters masters permits records case records lists requisitions work tags and other miscellaneous materials
    7. Trains and supervises work of other clerical staff as assigned
    8. Performs other related duties as assigned

    SALARY: $20.97 - $34.03 per hour

    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Districts Improvement of Professional Services handbookBoard Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable

    NEW PROBATIONARY EMPLOYEES AND PERMANENT EMPLOYEES WHO BECOME PROBATIONARY UPON RECLASSIFICATION:

    A new employee or a permanent employee who is changed to a new classification shall serve a probationary period which shall not exceed six (6) months of duty time exclusive of leaves of absence or other absences. During this probationary period the employee must meet the required standards of performance to be recommended for permanent status in the classification. A probationary classified service employee may be terminated from the probationary classification at any time without cause without right of appeal or hearing before the Board of Education. Pursuant to Education Code section 45113 a permanent employee who accepts a promotion and fails to complete the probationary period for that promotional position shall be employed in the classification from which he or she was
    promoted.

    REQUIRED TEST:

    All applicants must have passed the clerical test within three years of the deadline.
    • Clerical and Spanish Literacy test will be offered upon selection. (Bakersfield College - Tier II Bilingual Certificate will be accepted in lieu of district Spanish Literacy Test)

Typing certificate 40 net wpm(Valid certificate within three years of the deadline of this bulletin) Typing/shorthand certificates will be accepted from accredited colleges or business colleges.(copy acceptable for application purposes; original certificate must be presented upon offer ofemployment)


    Copies of required certificates transcripts or diplomas may be submitted with application. District may require that originals be presented for verification prior to employment. Please check with Human Resources regarding acceptable documents. For positions requiring college course work official transcripts will be required upon employment.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operators license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
