Position: Sr. Associate or Financing Manager - International Financing Guarantees (12 Month Contract)

Compensation Details:

  • Senior Associate Underwriter 15: Salaries typically range from $63894 to $85 194 annually based on qualifications and experiences.
  • Financing Manager Underwriter 17: Salaries typically rangefrom$83037 $110717 annually based on qualifications and experiences.

Location

  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)
  • This role can be performed from EDCs headquarters in Ottawa or from Community Hubs in Toronto Mississauga Vancouver Calgary Halifax Montreal Laval or Brossard.

Team & Job Overview

EDCsSmall Business & Partnerships (SB&P) groupprovidesfinancing solutions in support of Canadian exports and foreign investments to:

  • Canadian exporters and their foreigncustomers;
  • Canadian investors and their foreign affiliates; and
  • Financial institutions.

WithinSB&P the International Financing Guarantees team is looking foranenthusiastic finance professional who workswell in a team environment and enjoys interacting with colleaguesbanksand clients on a regular basis.

With the customers need always in view and in close collaboration with EDCs Business Development Legal Services Environmental Social & Governance (ESG)plus our external banking partners both domestically and internationally the successful candidatewill be relied upon to understand the customers needs underwrite financing loan guarantees which addresses those needs assess the credit risk and recommend risk mitigation strategies as appropriate to achieve the optimal balance between customer-centricity andEDCs business requirements.

Discipline Summary:

  • Works in collaboration with businesscustomers financialinstitutionsand other organizations to securefinancing;
  • Structures and deliverstailoredfinancing solutions (defined broadly to include guarantee structures) that support the specific product and service needs of customersprimarily in thesmall and mediumsegments (encompassingenterprises with revenues up to 300 million annually).
  • Analyzes the needs of customers and transaction delivery processes to suggest the best financial tool to meet theneed;
  • Assesses the risk of proposed solutions andestablishesappropriate transactionpricing;
  • Assiststhe business development teams with on-going customer service throughout the transactionprocess;
  • Negotiates changes to the terms and structure of existing transactions and recommends these by assessing the risk of proposed solutions andestablishingappropriate transactionpricing;
  • Conducts regular risk analysis and credit reviews of loan guarantees.

What you will be doing:

  • The Underwriting & Credit Risk job function is an essential part of EDCs core business services for our customers. This job function identifies assesses and manages credit & non-credit transaction and portfolio related risks.
  • Identifies assesses and mitigates key transaction risks.
  • Provideson-going customer service and support to ensure customer satisfaction throughout the transactionalprocess;
  • Understands financing issues financial markets terminology and general lending/underwriting practices and with moderate supervision applies this knowledge to the risk underwriting and mitigationprocess;

  • Supports account management function in managing customer expectations at various stages of theprocess;
  • Working closely with Legal Services drafts and/or reviews documents to deliver products fortransactions;
  • Develop and lead negotiations explain difficult issues and work toestablishconsensus;
  • Identifyshortcomings and suggest improvements to existing processessystemsand procedures then delivers a plan for a small element of a change management program with guidance from a project/programmanager.
  • Mayoversee workcoachand train more junior transactors.
  • Prepares transaction and credit material and presents transactions to appropriate DOA and recommends transactions within specified parameters policies and guidelines

Additional Responsibilities - Senior Associate only:

  • Under minimal guidance completes assigned structuring activities such as pricing and documentation for conventional repeat transactions involving minimal customization. Undertakes assigned credit risk assessment applying established methods and models to common defined risks and mitigants

Additional Responsibilities - Financing Manager only:

  • Independently leads proportionate share of transactions with increasing complexity requiring greater in-depth credit analysis;

  • Leads or advises on with minimal guidance the assessment/validation and recommendation of common defined credit/non-credit risks and mitigants. Under guidance undertakes the assessment/validation and recommendation of complex irregular and/or significant credit/non-credit risks involving broad sets of mitigants. OR for same endorses authorizes and/or provides advice on risks mitigants and related processes and guidelines. Determines financial eligibility of customers borrowers and other counter parties and drafts and/or reviews documents to deliver products

What we are looking for:

  • Completedan Undergraduate degree in Accounting Business AdministrationFinanceor related field.
  • Minimum 2 years(Senior Associate) or 5years (Financing Manager)ofexperience in financial services.
  • Knowledge of structuring/restructuring in commercial lending and/or loan portfolio management.
