Job Summary

The Associate Director of Outreach Recruitment and Retention will work under the general direction of the Associate Dean for Academic Programs to manage implement and assess all the operations of the Outreach and Recruitment Office and all the MESA programs in the college. The incumbent will also be responsible for exploring opportunities and participating in the development of grant proposals to support recruitment and retention of students in engineering. The selected individuals will collaborate with faculty and staff in the Engineering Student Success Center to organize and host outreach and recruitment events. Finally the incumbent will collaborate with the Learning Coordinator on the recruitment in and implementation and administration of existing and new retention programs in the college and with the Recruitment and Outreach Specialist on outreach and fundraising activities to increase the recruitment of high school and community college students in engineering programs at CSULB.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Planning and Statewide MESA Participation: Participate in MESA directors planning and training meetings.
  • MESA Program Development Implementation Administration and Assessment.
  • Grant Development and Fund Raising: Promote MESA by coordinating industry visits to the MESA Center and CSULB.
  • Administration and Implementation of New and Existing Student Recruitment and Retention Programs.
  • Outreach Recruitment Retention activities: Negotiate MESA school site agreements with participating schools and district offices.

Management skills in staff supervision leading to high productivity. Fundraising skills with the ability to work with high corporate officers. Innovative ideas for academic intervention to meet student needs. Organizational skills for information research on academic programs. Proactive skills to encourage hiring of students from multi-cultural backgrounds. Advising/Counseling skills for curriculum development and project design. Networking and communication skills to interact with individuals or groups. Knowledge and skills in using computer scheduling and planning software packages.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies procedures and guidelines including but not limited to safety civility information security and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the universitys commitment to a vision of excellence.

Education and Experience

REQUIRED: Equivalent to a bachelors degree with upper or graduate coursework in counseling and guidance human relations or related fields and four years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.

PREFERRED: Masters or higher degree in a related field. Experience in developing grant proposals in interacting with STEM schools and engineering industry and involvement in fundraising activities.

Physical Summary

Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education experience and qualifications the candidate brings to the position internal equity and the hiring departments fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $6320 - $9014 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for one year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
