POSITION SUMMARY:
The Surgical Technologist II is to function as a team member during the preoperative intra-operative and postoperative phases of the surgical procedure.
EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:
Minimum:
Two (2) years recent hospital experience in the capacity of a Surgical Technologist
LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:
Minimum:
Current CPR recognition
Current certification as a Surgical Tech (the 2 acceptable certifications are: (1) CST from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) and (2)Tech in Surgery TS-C from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:
Demonstrates advanced knowledge and proficient practice in the first scrub role in majority of surgical procedures and advanced skills appropriate to the role of the Surgical Technician. Demonstrates higher level critical thinking and problem solving skills. Must demonstrate technical competence professional judgment and sensitivity for the patient and family in crisis. Must be able to interact professionally and effectively communicate with physicians staff patients and the public. Must have the ability to organize and prioritize work efficiently. Must have the ability to work in a demanding environment while remaining calm efficient and focused. Must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must have the ability and willingness to actively participate in continuing education programs unit based QI task forces and committees and actively participates in preceptor programs. Must have the ability to perform at the preceptor role in the training of students. Must have the ability to act as a department resource as a positive role model. Must be able to perform proficiently at intermediate and advanced levels and meet competency requirements.
