The Mayerson JCC connects people so that they can live happier and fuller lives creating a more vibrant Jewish community. The JCC helps to foster social connections between its members and guests alike bringing people together through a wide variety of programs and events. With an expansive fitness center highly regarded early childhood school and senior center arts and cultural events offered throughout the year and classes for every age the JCC connects enriches and inspires over 27000 visitors per month. The JCC welcomes and engages everyone regardless of race religion or ability.
POSITION SUMMARY
Working closely with other members of our shows creative team the choreographer will oversee all dance aspects of our musical production including teaching and rehearsing the choreography for all major dance numbers. The choreographers job is to understand how dance serves a shows story setting drama and emotional context and to bring out those critical elements in high quality and consistent performances.
Rehearsals for The Wizard of Oz Youth Edition are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 7:00pm and Sundays from 4 5pm with additional days for tech week. Rehearsals start in January 2026 and end in May 2026. Show dates are May 13 14 and 17 with tech week running from April 30 May 11. There are no Friday or Saturday rehearsals.
CANDIDATES SHOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Comfortable working with children ages 5 14
- Experience in musical theatre
- Strong dance skills and experience creating and teaching choreography
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Assist the Theatre Director to ensure that all dance numbers are successful
- Other duties as assigned
MORE ABOUT THE ROLE
- Attend all choreography rehearsals and 3-4 all-cast/tech rehearsals as discussed with the director
- Oversees most dance aspects of the current show
- Assists with individual dance success as needed
- $600 total compensation paid in two installments
