Job Description:

Reporting to the Dean the Associate Chair is responsible for providing a range of management functions in support of the Chairs of the Academic Departments in the School of Wellness Public Safety and Community Studies.

The Associate Chair is the first line of support in the resolution of student complaints academic misconduct academic appears and grade reviews. The incumbent is responsible for reviewing and supporting retroactive accommodation requests and the management of students on academic probation.

The Associate Chair supports the Academic Chairs with the recruitment and onboarding of other-than-full-time faculty (developing managing and assisting in their evaluation including reviewing course evaluations and providing support related to performance improvement). The Associate Chair is responsible for building a pool of qualified candidates for the programs identified by the Chairs.

The Associate Chair supports marketing and interacts with other college departments to ensure smooth operations of the School of Wellness Public Safety and Community Studies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum four (4) year in Social Sciences Business Education or a related field. Equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience may be accepted in place of formal education.

  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in an educational institution with increasingly responsible roles;

  • Demonstrated leadership skills;

  • Experience or subject matter expertise in areas aligned with the programming within the school would be an asset;

  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to teaching excellence and quality education;

  • Knowledge of and experience in curriculum development teaching/instruction and preparation of teaching materials would be an asset;

  • Knowledge of student support in a post-secondary environment;

  • Ability to respond quickly to rapidly evolving situations;

  • Experience dealing with difficult situations;

  • Excellent oral written and interpersonal communication skills;

  • Time management and organizational skills;

  • Strong communication negotiation facilitation and conflict resolution skills;

  • Experience dealing with student situations would be an asset;

  • Knowledge of student support in a post-secondary environment;

  • Ability to respond quickly to rapidly evolving situations;

  • Time management and organizational skills;

  • Excellent oral written and interpersonal communication skills;

  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word Excel Access PowerPoint);

  • Demonstrated leadership skills;

  • Student information system knowledge;

  • Exposure to academic topics such as Instructional Skills Workshop curriculum development etc.
