The Internship Experience
As a WM Intern you wont be sitting on the sidelines youll be in the mix. You will work alongside experienced professionals on real projects that make an impact for WM. Youll get real-world experience in key aspects of our business including a meaningful project youll own and present to senior leaders at the end of the summer while discovering what were all about. Outside of your core work youll join skill-building workshops connect with leaders through executive roundtables and build community with fellow interns from across the country. About the Project Controls Team
This 12-week internship plan is designed for college students seeking hands-on experience in Project Controls that will also provide exposure to overall Project Management. The program will be structured as a series of rotations through the core functions of Project Controls: Estimating Risk Management Schedule Management and Cost Management. The program will culminate in a collaboratively selected capstone project that will empower interns to integrate their learnings and experience into a meaningful value-driven initiative.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General Overview to the Team and the Program
Assist with cost estimation exercises and estimate build-ups
Participate in review meetings and learn about estimateclassifications
Support preparation of risk registers and mitigation plans
Participate in risk workshops and status updates
Attend schedule review sessions and progress trackingmeetings
Assist with cost tracking forecasting and reporting
Analyze variances and support monthly cost reviews
Throughout the internship students will be paired with mentors in each rotation attend weekly check-ins and have access to additional training resources. The program aims to foster both professional growth and practical skills relevant to a career in Project Controls or Project Management.
III. Qualifications
A. Required Qualifications
- Interns must have a High school diploma or GED (accredited) and be pursuing or have recently completed a Bachelors degree (accredited) in a field of study relevant to the internship.
