Job Summary

Departments Department of Mathematics and Computer Science

Introduction

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Information and Coding Theory. We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to advance research in modern coding and/or information theory with emphasis on applications in reliable data storage networks communication systems or other emerging technologies. Candidates whose expertise bridges classical coding theory with novel paradigms such as quantum information theory are especially encouraged to apply.

Job Description

The position is embedded in the Mathematical Communication Theory (MCT) group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). TU/e has a long-standing tradition of excellence in coding and information theory providing a strong foundation for research in these fields. Coding theory the science of transmitting and storing data reliably plays a crucial role in all modern communication systems and is fundamentally rooted in information theory.

The MCT group advances research on communication theory at the intersection of mathematics and electrical engineering with a particular emphasis on the mathematical foundations of the discipline. Positioned at this interface the group combines rigorous theoretical approaches with practical perspectives and actively builds bridges between communities fostering synergies across mathematics electrical engineering and applied sciences more broadly. The group collaborates with the Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics departments and with the Eindhoven Casimir Institute. It is embedded in the Discrete Mathematics cluster offering close connections with researchers in applied algebra cryptography number theory and geometry.

The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in information theory or coding theory with a research profile that aligns with one or more of the groups core areas: network communications DNA data storage distributed data storage and quantum error correction. Candidates whose work expands one or more of these directions through new methodologies and mathematical frameworks are especially encouraged to apply. You will strengthen the groups existing focus areas and broaden its capacity to address cutting-edge problems in modern communication and data storage systems.

In this role you will be supported in developing an independent research agenda and growing as an academic while actively collaborating with the MCT group for instance in the form of research collaborations and joint funding applications.

Job Requirements

  • Motivated researcher with a PhD in Mathematics Electrical Engineering or a comparable domain.
  • Strong mathematical background enabling integration into a mathematics research group collaboration across disciplines and designing/teaching courses in mathematics.
  • Extensive expertise in communication and information theory with a solid understanding of their practical applications and relevance to industry and technology.
  • Interest in bridging fundamental research with practical applications and industrial partners.
  • Ability to conduct high quality academic research reflected in demonstratable outputs.
