About the role:

The Human Resources (HR) Manager plays a key role in assisting AMSANT to establish best practice human resources management approaches which support organisational goals and objectives as outlined in the AMSANT Strategic Plan. This includes establishing a strong sustainable and accountable organisation.

The Human Resources Manager will lead the HR functions within the Corporate Team for AMSANT reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and work closely with Department Managers throughout the organisation. The position is responsible for implementing strategic human resources initiatives review and improve HR/organisational related procedures including setting priorities driving values and delivering required outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Support AMSANTs cultural framework to create a workplace where Aboriginal staff feel safe and supported to achieve their highest potential.
  • Provide direction and achieve alignment and commitment from employees to meet strategic HR objectives.
  • Communicate effectively in written and verbal forms with all staff and external stakeholders. Incorporating strong listening skills cultural awareness and respect to influence and counsel.
  • Ensure consistent and fair interpretation of Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate monitor and continuously improve recurrent HR activities including performance appraisals salary review contract renewal exit interview activity and related HR processes with management.
  • Manage induction and cultural orientation for new staff in collaboration with Managers.
  • Oversee and maintain accurate confidential employee records and databases through HR Systems.
  • Work collaboratively with the Finance team to support payroll administration processes to ensure correct payment of salaries and wages and timely response on employment contractual matters.
  • Develop and manage organisational workplace planning and job descriptions in accordance with approved organisational structures and industry benchmark.
  • Provide guidance coaching and advisory support to managers on policy interpretation and procedural application to ensure correct handling of Employee Relations issues including complaints & grievances procedure discipline performance management dismissal and counselling to reduce the risk of litigation.
  • Provide managers supervisors and staff with guidance training and updated information regarding related legislation condition of employment and employment policy and procedure as required.
  • Liaise with WorksafeNT NT remote workforce recruitment agencies and other external Human Resources bodies as required.

Industrial Relations

  • Maintain a positive and respectful workplace environment counselling and advising employees on change developing and administrating related HR activities promoting communications between staff and management.
  • Manage and ensure that all HR Policies are current and compliant.
  • Provide high level advice and detailed briefings to management on industrial relations matters as they arise or as required.
  • Provide management lead role in Enterprise Agreement negotiations processes and activities as required to report to Senior Management Team as required.
  • Manage supports for staff and managers with any formal complaints process.

Professional Development and Training

  • Undertake strategic workplace planning and succession planning initiatives in conjunction with management.
  • Ensure effective staff development plans are in place that support individual training needs and accord with organisational requirements including minimum skills sets and professional development requirements.
  • Attract funding for training projects and staff development.
  • Identify and promote career advancement opportunities retention and succession planning through training and professional development of Aboriginal staff.

Workplace Health and Safety

  • Manage Workplace compensation cases.
  • Work with the WHS warden of the Darwin office in the event of any health and safety requirement.

HRIS

  • Oversee the daily operation of AMSANT HR Information Systems.
  • Coordinate recruitment process in collaboration with relevant Manager and Corporate staff.
  • Regularly review manuals and document data processing procedures.
  • Generate ad-hoc reports (for example reports on turnover hiring costs and benefits).

Other Duties

  • Undertake special HR projects and related duties as the request of the Chief Executive Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer.
  • Provide HR Policy and Research support to the organisation this may include preparation of reports developing submissions and drafting discussions/position papers on policy issues as needed.

Selection Requirements (Qualifications & Attributes)

Essential

  • Analytical skills demonstrating the ability to extract format analyse and interpret data and organise the information in a framework to effectively communicate with business leaders and their teams.
  • 5-10 years of Human Resources Generalist experience.
  • Demonstrated sound knowledge of Human Resources practices and industrial relations legislation.
  • Highly developed administration and organisational skills; proven ability to meet deadlines and perform under pressure.
  • Proven ability to work and communicate with people from different backgrounds and in a multicultural environment especially an Indigenous community environment.
  • Strong written oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience with record management systems and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong computer literacy and experience working with MS Office software such as Word Outlook and Excel.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HRIS systems.
  • Current Ochre Card and Police Check (or willing to obtain).

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people or within Aboriginal health organisations.

Additional information:
