Job Summary

Job Summary

The Supervisor of District Sports Medicine will practice within the parameters of the Florida Board of Athletic Training and will follow both the Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers Association. These essential functions below are based on the needs of Duval County Public Schools and its high school athletic programs. The Supervisors duties enumerated in this document should not be considered all inclusive.

Essential Functions

Depending upon the needs of each school and their athletic programs incumbents may perform some or all of the functions in the section below. Percentage of time spent performing essential functions may vary across position.

and evaluates the role/ and responsibility of site-based athletic trainers in coordination with District Athletic Director the JSMP (Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program) and volunteer team physicians. Supervises and evaluates athletic training staff conducts annual performance evaluations responsible for employment and discipline recommendations and supervises work assignments.

the athletic training services schedule including the facilitation of substitute athletic trainers including personnel staffing as needed throughout the District for illness planned absence and additional staffing for DCPS and FHSAA sanctioned major events.

enhanced athletic training services for high profile DCPS (Duval County Public Schools) sanctioned athletic events Gateway Conference tournaments FHSAA (Florida High School Athletic Association) State Series and DCPS Middle School Championships.

athletic related injuries and injury care is appropriately documented. Provides seasonal data reports on sports related injuries and sports medicine specific items from within the District. Shows injury trends and recognizes areas of special attention.

with school Principals and individual athletic directors volunteer team physicians and coaches necessary to complete and submit annual performance evaluations for each site-based athletic trainer

in regularly scheduled Athletic Director meetings presenting statistical organizational student athlete safety and procedural updates

routine school site visits to observe evaluate and mentor site-based athletic trainers

the JSMP in planning and execution of youth safety programs

the JSMP (Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program) in planning and organizing continuing educational programs

together with JSMP (Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program) in planning and implementing specific goals directions objectives and growth of DCPS Sports medicine Programming and Services. Represents DCPS (Duval County Public Schools) as a voting board member on the JSMP Executive Board in the absence of the Superintendent.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelors degree in athletic training from a CAATE accredited college or university program. Masters degree preferred.

Experience: Ten (10) years as an athletic trainer in a secondary school setting. A minimum of five (5) years supervisory experience in clinical athletic training outreach professional or secondary schools

Certifications & Licenses: NATABOC certified and licensed to practice athletic training per Florida statute. Current certification in CPR/Emergency Cardiac Care for the Professional Responder. Registered with the National Provider Identifier Standards (NPI)

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of techniques used to diagnose and treat sports related injuries.
  • Knowledge of sports injury preventative measures
  • Strong skills in assessing and treating sports related injuries.
  • Strong skills in mechanical stimulation heat cold light air water electricity sound massage and the use of therapeutic exercises reconditioning exercise and fitness programs
  • Strong oral written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong word processing spreadsheet presentation and database software skills
  • Strong presentation development and delivery skills
  • Ability to assess manage treat rehabilitate and recondition student athletes within the professional preparation and education of a Athletic Trainer
  • Ability to evaluate athlete readiness to play.
  • Ability to evaluate and assess sports equipment.
  • Ability to develop and manage the absence of the Superintendent Current or past engagement as a professional within local state or national level athletic training organizations. Participation as a Board or committee level professional preferred
  • Ability to handle considerable amounts of stress associated with staff management and athletic injuries.
