What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers competitive pay commensurate with education and experience. Although the full pay range is posted the target hiring range is $25.00-$28.00/ hr. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

The City and County of Denver has announced furlough days or unpaid days off for most employees to meet a budget shortfall in 2025. There are two fixed furlough days for all limited (temporary positions with an end date) and unlimited (permanent) employees on August 29th the Friday before Labor Day and November 28th the day after Thanksgiving. If you receive an offer for this position your annual pay will determine whether you are required to take additional furlough days. Details will be discussed during the offer process for selected candidate(s).

Street Maintenance is responsible for filling potholes repaving streets sweeping streets and removing snow from public streets and alleys. The Division also manages the Citys asphalt plant which produces asphalt for resurfacing and maintaining city streets and alleys.

As a Equipment Operator you will:

• Be part of a Street Sweeping Paving Milling or Asphalt team

• Be an entry level crew leader for the Utility Worker 1&2 teammates

• Perform semi-skilled and light to heavy physical labor on a variety of construction maintenance and repair projects.

• Operate light to medium sized equipment for maintenance and minor construction projects

• Place and remove barricades cones and other traffic control and safety devices in and around work areas for construction and maintenance projects in accordance with traffic regulation requirement

• Perform other related duties as assigned including snow removal duties

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience skills and characteristics:

• Knowledge of city of Denver streets/alleys and use of maps

• Previous experience with street maintenance and other labor-related tasks

• Experience working in various weather conditions (snow rain heat etc.) and environments (dust fumes etc.)

• Knowledge of city of Denver streets/alleys and use of maps

• Desire to promote to other positions within the department

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED HiSET or TASC Certificate

• Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of general labor experience which must include six (6) months of experience operating light to medium sized equipment.

• Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirements.

• License/Certifications: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL B) with appropriate endorsements at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
