Position Title: Engineer Technician
Employment Type: 6-Month Contract (or specify if different)
Location: Northeast Central Austin
Reports To: Engineering Supervisor
Position Summary
The Engineer Technician supports new and existing manufacturing equipment and processes through development implementation troubleshooting and verification/validation. This role includes tool fixture and gage design and fabrication as well as hands-on R&D prototype development.
Principal Responsibilities
Support the development testing and implementation of complex manufacturing processes including both new and existing multi-step systems.
Analyze and troubleshoot equipment and process-related issues; develop effective corrective actions.
Lead and oversee engineering projects of relatively simple scope.
Collaborate with Engineering Production Quality Control and Quality Assurance to ensure processes consistently meet drawings specifications and procedural requirements.
Assist Engineering in selecting and evaluating vendors for component manufacturing operations.
Design and develop tools fixtures and gages that support manufacturing operations.
Fabricate prototypes for new product development efforts.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant manufacturing technologies and share insights with engineering and production teams.
Additional Responsibilities
Stay informed on current technologies and philosophies in material removal inspection automation and manufacturing systems.
Provide cycle-time estimates to support product costing activities.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Interact professionally with coworkers provide instruction communicate effectively and respond appropriately to supervision and feedback.
Manage time effectively and make sound business decisions related to efficiency and workflow.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Two-year technical degree and 8 years of Manufacturing and/or Engineering experience or 10 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
Strong proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes inspection methods process control (including automation and SPC) and project scheduling/justification.
Familiarity with 5S and Lean Manufacturing principles.
Ability to design and fabricate prototypes fixtures and tools.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced rapidly changing and entrepreneurial environment.
Ability to read analyze interpret and follow written and verbal instructions.
Proficiency in English with strong communication and basic math skills.
Basic computer skills including MS Office internet research and email.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to define problems collect data analyze information and draw logical conclusions.
Ability to travel to vendors customers and trade shows as required.
