Job Summary

Position: Health Room Assistant II 6.5 hrs a day 190 days a year
Location: Ellensburg School District

*subject to moveas needed between district buildings
Reports to: Nurse Supervisor

Job Summary:


The Health Room Assistant II plays a vital role in supporting student health and well-being. Working
under the direction of the Nurse Supervisor the position assists in implementing and revising care plans
in collaboration with the registered nurse. This role ensures students health needs are met contributes
to a safe school environment and helps the district comply with state and federal health regulations.


Responsibilities:

  • Monitor students with special healthcare needs (i.e. diabetes asthma allergies known seizure disorders) per individualized health plans.
  • Manage a school health room independently with off-site nurse supervision.
  • Provide first aid and emergency care for students staff and visitors following the Department of Healths Guidelines for Illness and Injury at School. Assess conditions administer appropriate care notify parents and call 911 when necessary.
  • Monitor students on field trips providing for healthcare needs.
  • Administer medication per district policy.
  • Serve as a Parent Designated Adult (PDA) for specific students when needed and appropriate.
  • Maintain and update health records including immunization cards health room logs into the student information system as well as student health files.
  • Maintain and restock health room supplies as necessary.
  • Communicate regularly with school nurses to report observations and receive guidance.
  • Coordinate health screenings (vision hearing scoliosis) and train volunteers or staff as needed.
  • Perform monthly checks on the sites AED device and coordinate maintenance or repairs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on school health needs.


Minimum Qualifications:


Skills Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Understanding of CNA/MA principles and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of aseptic/sterile techniques and infection control practices.
  • Willingness to act as a Parent Designated Adult (PDA) for designated students.
  • Familiarity with medical supplies equipment care and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in first aid and CPR.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with students staff parents and volunteers in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure adapt to changing situations and respond to new health issues.
  • Ability to learn and follow policies and procedures established by the school district and State of Washington.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Bilingual candidates preferred.


Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with school-age children is preferred.
  • Must pass a background check fingerprinting and sexual misconduct disclosure screening.


Certificates & Licenses:

  • Valid Washington State CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) or MA (Medical Assistant) Certification.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Valid drivers license and proof of insurance.


Working Environment:


The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical
demands: occasional lifting (able to lift 50 pounds and assist in lifting over 50 pounds) carrying pushing
and/or pulling; some stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.
Generally the job requires 34% sitting 33% walking and 33% standing. The job related is performed
under a generally hazard-free environment and in a clean atmosphere.
