Position Available: Seasonal Bilingual Outreach Worker Advocates for Basic Legal Equality Inc. (ABLE) is a nonprofit law firm established over 50 years ago to ensure that the most vulnerable people in our communities have the same access to justice as people that can afford to retain an attorney. About the Position Outreach Workers are a vital part of our outreach team helping us reach as many agricultural workers as possible during the busiest time of year across Ohio. Each year more than 60000 agricultural workers and their family members work in Ohio. They are involved in harvesting various crops including cucumbers tomatoes lettuce onions radishes and peppers. Additionally they work in packing sheds grading stations nurseries greenhouses food processing plants and animal production facilities. Agricultural workers often face legal challenges due to violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act and other federal and state protective statutes. They may also encounter issues related to taxes immigration environmental hazards sexual harassment government benefits housing domestic violence civil rights education and more. Position Responsibilities The primary responsibility of the Outreach Workers is to visit agricultural housing and labor camps in Ohio during the evening hours. Their role is to inform workers about our services and their rights and to accept applications for legal assistance. This is a full-time temporary position that will run from mid-May 2026 through mid-August 2026. One outreach worker will be based in Toledo while others will be located in Dayton or Toledo. Qualifications We are looking for individuals who are dedicated to promoting social justice for agricultural workers. Candidates must be fluent in Spanish possess excellent organizational and writing skills and be able to communicate effectively with under-resourced clients and community groups. Proficiency with computers and a strong commitment to the rule of law are also essential. ABLE will provide training and daily supervision by experienced staff including attorneys paralegals and outreach coordinators. Outreach Workers must have a valid drivers license be insurable and have access to an automobile. ABLE generally has a vehicle available for outreach purposes but Outreach Workers may also need to use their own cars Compensation $22.50 per hour Employee Status Non-Exempt 30-40 hours per week Location The position is in-person in Toledo or Dayton.
