Because of the temporary nature of these appointments Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits provided to regular Board of Regents (BOR) and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Other Conditions: Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected to begin approximately December 2025. Not to exceed 89 days.

Duties:

  1. Provide guidance to CSO officers members and assigned student media organizations on responsibilities operations and leadership development.
  2. Ensure adherence to charters bylaws FCC regulations and university/state policies; update the CSO Handbook annually.
  3. Partner with faculty advisors student leaders and campus programs to strengthen participation and connect academics with co-curricular experiences.
  4. Assist organizations with scheduling budgeting contracting facilities safety food and related event logistics.
  5. Coordinate student leadership workshops and provide training on broadcasting media operations ethics programming and promotion.
  6. Develop communication strategies to promote events and foster student involvement; maintain regular communication with student leaders and advisors.
  7. Manage storage supplies facilities and AV equipment for student organizations.
  8. Serve on divisional and university committees and contribute to campus-wide events orientations and initiatives.
  9. Stay current on trends in student media broadcasting and student engagement to support program growth.
  10. Working evenings and weekends as required to support student programs and events.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Journalism English Communications or Public Relations and two years experience in collegiate student broadcasting/media advising training development and policy/procedure creation or equivalent education/training and experience.

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Functional knowledge of broadcasting/media programs production management ethics and budgeting.
  2. Knowledge of advising collegiate student broadcasting/media including policies skills terminology technology and industry standards.
  3. Understanding of federal/state laws University rules and UH policies/procedures related to Chartered Student Organizations student life programs and student-fee funded activities.
  4. Ability to identify analyze and resolve common issues in co-curricular programs and services.
  5. Strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to prepare reports develop procedures and interpret documentation.
  6. Commitment to teamwork and the ability to build effective relationships with students staff and internal/external partners.
  7. Proficiency in using personal computers and word-processing software.
  8. At least five years of related professional publication experience or equivalent combination of education and experience providing the required competencies.
