Job Summary

Duties/Responsibilities of a Cost Accountant:

Duties/Responsibilities:

The cost accountant position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of process constraints target costing projects margin analysis and tracing costs back to underlying activities

The cost accountant must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data

accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management

Establishment of labor & machine rates
Standard Cost versus Actual Cost variance analysis
Balance sheet responsibility for inventory accounts
Construct data accumulation systems for a cost accounting system
Create and review the controls needed for data accumulation and reporting systems
Maintenance of part costs in ERP system
Active participation in inventory reduction projects
Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies
Update standard costs in the bill of materials
Accumulate and apply overhead costs as required by generally accepted accounting principles
Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies

Knowledge and Abilities:

Daily/Weekly/Monthly Management reporting
Fixed asset tracking
Trains and instructs other employees as directed
Cross train with Accounting Supervisor and Controller
Also helpful to have experience manipulating large databases
Report on periodic variances and their causes focusing in particular on spending and labor variances
Strong analytical skills
ERP experience is a must
Able to work independently

Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree in Accounting required
CPA or CMA certification preferred but not required
Cost Accounting: 3 years
