About us

The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response including road crash rescue bushfire hazardous material technical and vertical rescue severe weather incidents remote and swiftwater rescue and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.


The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR) Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt prevent mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state.

Purpose of the role

The Academy Services team provides facilities and resource management and services through logistical coordination facilities maintenance business support financial and human resource management and the adaption of new technology in the delivery of professional development to support the QFDs education and training operations at the Academy. The Business Services team focuses on providing facilities management services in support of QFDs delivery of suitably qualified operational personnel. The team contributes to operations and the development implementation and monitoring of ongoing strategies policies procedures and systems which is achieved by ensuring optimum utilisation of the facility.


Reporting to the Manager Academy Services you will contribute to the day-to-day management of business services activities which includes assisting with the monitoring and coordination of the educational facilities equipment security safety systems building and grounds maintenance cleaning and facility compliance and management services. You will assist with the coordination of external contractors procurement management scheduling of planned and unplanned maintenance and repairs and administrative services to ensure efficient processes are adhered to and a safe and secure educational and training facility meets departmental and operational requirements.

  • SAP training and experience for purchasing.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in Workplace health and safety legislation and compliance regulations.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work including but not limited to:

  • Assist with day-to-day coordination of activities for the facility management requirements including training props office accommodation and grounds maintenance to meet the needs and specifications of stakeholders whilst ensuring compliance with government policy and process.
  • Provide high-level customer service to staff and clients in the ccoordination and monitoring of specialist facilities maintenance and building contractors ensuring that works are completed compliantly in line with legislative standards and departmental requirements.
  • Assist in conducting regular site maintenance audits and needs analysis for the continuous improvement of the educational facilities and assets in line with departmental procurement processes for rectification and future works to support the delivery of education and training.
  • Interpret and apply workplace health and safety legislation and best practices within an educational facilities enironment and contribute to the development and review of new policy procedures and initiatives to support the efficient and safe operation of the Academy.
  • Prioritise tasks organise workflows and monitor personnel to ensure that technical requirements and maintenance of educational facilities and assets meets client expectation and the facility remains operational and fit for purpose.
  • Build and maintain productive and respectful working relationships with a diverse range of key internal and external stakeholders including contractors to ensure quality maintenance and construction services are delivered in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Assist in monitoring of various administrative systems and programs building management systems security and CCTV including to extract and interpret data and provide recommendations to ensure optimal performance of the facilities.
  • Assist with quality assurance to ensure systems such as security air conditioning and fire alarm systems remain compliant with relevant safety regulations by monitoring their operational status and maintenance logs to enable timely intervention and effective decision-making to prevent operational disruptions.
