The Position

Antibody Engineering at Roche Innovation Center Shanghai is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Associate or Principal Associate for antibody discovery work including antibody hits identification by phage or yeast display systems library build and the characterization and optimization of lead antibody compounds. The final position offered depends the experience level of the candidate. Actual responsibilities will vary according to specific roles. The position requires the candidate to execute phage/yeast display screening development and screening of in vitro binding assays and functional cell-based assays to contribute to optimization of therapeutic antibody leads. The successful candidate will work with dynamic and highly motivated teams to drive the development of antibody therapeutics for unmet medical needs. The candidate will collaborate effectively with colleagues in Antibody Engineering Lead Discovery Protein Sciences Structural Biology Immunology Oncology and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute yeast and/or phage based display system for antibody discovery. Experience for library-build and single B cell workflow will be greatly valued but not a must.

  • Develop and perform in vitro binding assays for the screening and characterization of therapeutic antibody hits including immuno-binding assays including ELISAs FACS affinity measurement assays antibody epitope mapping assays and functional biochemical and cell-based assays in various disease areas

  • Execute profiling/screening to deliver data to guide lead optimization

  • Monitor outsourcing activities at CROs to ensure timely delivery of qualified data to steer portfolios

  • Independently analyzes interprets and presents results within and outside Antibody Engineering

  • Coordinates cross-functional efforts to meet near-term or long-term project goals

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Qualification and experience

The candidate qualifications include an MS degree in biochemistry cell biology or molecular biology and at least 5 years of recent relevant antibody discovery experience preferably in a biopharmaceutical industry setting.

Competencies

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated competence in the following areas:

  • Deep hands-on experience in molecular biology biochemical and cell-based assay development and familiar with relevant instruments

  • Hands-on experience in yeast/phage display technologies and related workflows in the context of antibody discovery

  • Familiar with high-throughput & high-content screening set up and relevant instruments.

  • Experience in Immunology Oncology and other disease areas is highly desirable

  • Experience with single B cell system is highly desirable

  • Proven ability in independent and reliable execution of antibody discovery work with a persistent record of productivity agile problem solving capability and aptitude in quickly learning new technologies/skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a deep commitment to working in a fast paced team setting.
