Job Summary

Your role at St John of God Geelong Hospital

We have two opportunities available one is a permanent part time and the other a 12 month fixed term part time roleworking as a team member of the Patient Services Department responsible for acting as the key contact point for patients clinicians managers and health funds in regard to a patients pre-admission admission discharge billing and debtors follow up.

The Position

  • Ensure maintenance of accurate and current information within the Patient Administration systems.

  • Co-ordinate patient admission process completing required financial/admission paperwork as well as ensuring all health fund requirements have been met and working with other departments to ensure efficient patient flow and experience.

  • Resolution of patient queries as they arise regarding their cover at the admission centre phone or on the ward & other areas of the hospital.

  • Demonstrate and maintain extensive knowledge of Health fund contract requirements and associated processes and procedures - including banding and classifications default benefits and DRG case payments.

  • Clearly identify and communicate relevant Health Fund information and associated financial considerations to patients and key stakeholders.

  • Contacting health funds to discuss and acquire accurate information and clarification in regard to a patients level of cover.

  • Provide accurate quotations of out-of-pocket expenses for both self-funding and insured patients through knowledge of health fund policies key relationships such as doctors rooms.

  • Liaising with doctors secretaries and specialist nurses to obtain item numbers and prosthesis amounts to accurately quote for those items.

  • Maintain key stakeholder relationships such as liaison with Health Funds doctors & their staff specialist nurses other departments and the public to maintain and promote harmonious interpersonal relationships and effective teamwork.

  • Liaise each day with clinical manager of DSU and Pre-Admissions Manager to obtain required arrival time for the following day- this is critical to ensure patient flow.

  • Cash/payment management responsibilities including collection of payment from patients and completing banking for the day.

You will have excellent communication skills both oral and written and the ability to relate to hospital staff patients families and medical staff.

To succeed you will be able to prioritise a busy and varied workload and work unsupervised.

We can offer you

  • Salary: $61403 to $63133 (pro rata for part time) per annum plus 12% superannuation

  • A permanent part time and a fixed term part time position working 30 hours per week
